Our 2-night stay at the American Loyalist peter Secord Inn at Niagara-on-the-Lake was beyond compare! From the moment we were welcomed by owners, Harry and Collette, we were captivated and magically transported to the 18th century, but with an overlay of 21st century sensibilities. In restoring this house, the oldest dwelling Ontario, Harry and Collete have managed to retain its authenticity while provinding present day comforts. Harry grew up in this house and knows every nail, stone and floorboard. He did much of the structural and finish work himself, with Collette overseeing the interior design. The bedrooms are beautifully furnished with comfortable beds and pleasing period decor, while the adjoining bathrooms sparkle with modern fixtures and conveniences.
The living room is a quiet sanctuary for evening sherry, reading and conversation. And Collette's breakfasts, served with love in the original dining room, are creative, healthful and satisfying--an artful way to fortify travelers for the day's adventures. Harry and Collette are unstinting with their knowledge of the area's wonders, information on theater, fine dining and history. We traveled with our son and his wife. All agree that the Peter Secord Inn is over-the-top. We are already planning a return visit to return to the 18th century and see and do all the things we couldn't pack into such a short stay. Time travel, indeed!
