“Worthy of praise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I suprised my husband with a trip to Niagara on the Lake for his 50th birthday. I found the Harbour House on a vacation get-away website and it was perfect for the occassion. The hotel was beautiful with a lobby that was so warm and inviting. The staff including Bruce and Dave were so helpful and friendly and familiar with the surrounding area. Our room was beautiful with a whirlpool tub and a fireplace not to mention the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. The breakfast was delicious and included items such as salmon, tea cakes, and an incredible homemade breakfast french toast strata. Everything in the town is within walking distance however if you choose transporation is provided by the hotel to dining establishments, etc.. There was not a detail that the Harbour House did not think of as far as amenities within the room to make our stay all that more pleasant. We will be back in the summer to view the entire Niagara on the Lake area when the beautiful flowers are in bloom and would not hesitate to stay at Harbour House. It was a perfect weekend including the Peller Estate Winery and the Shaw Spa and I couldn't recommend it enough to friends and family. Thank you.

Room Tip: Our room was overlooking the boat yard however I believe there are rooms with the river view.

My adult daughter and I were looking for relaxation and something special for our mother-daughter trip. We found it at the Harbour House Hotel. The lobby was inviting and cozy with a nice fireplace. Our room was beautiful and comfortable with a river view, fireplace and whirlpool tub. We enjoyed the expanded complimentary breakfast each morning. The complimentary afternoon wine and yummy cheese concoction was awesome. We had the pleasure of meeting other guests at the afternoon wine and cheese. I believe the hotel atmosphere encouraged conversation and added to our experience. We booked the Whirlwind of Wine package which included a half day wine tour and a 3 course dinner at the Charles Inn. Both events were enjoyable and well worth the price of the package. The hotel staff was incredible from check in to check out, and everything in between. I'd like to single out a staff member. However, everyone was our favorite. The hotel is within walking distance to the charming main street and the Shaw theater area, even in cold weather. After three nights, we still did not want to leave, so we stayed an additional night at a special add a night rate. We've decided to make this a yearly trip.

We like to go to Niagara on the Lake for the Shaw festival every year for romantic weekend getaways, and this hotel was a perfect place to stay. It was off the main strip, but not a far walk. (One of the actors in the festival was living in the house right next door to the hotel, and we had a neighbourly chat in the morning which was cute.) The rooms have a homey, quaint but not too quaint feel, which is a very comfortable vibe to return to each night. Service was friendly. A very enjoyable stay, and we will definitely return.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect on your stay! It is great to hear that you have been coming to Niagara-on-the-Lake for years to enjoy The Shaw Festival Theatre.

It is wonderful to take in a Shaw Festival performance, and then to see one of the actors/actresses walking down the street easily striking up a conversation. I would say that is one of my favourite “small town” highlights.

I look forward to opportunity to say hello during your next visit.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Dickson

We have spent several long weekends at this B&B. It is perfectly located within walking distance of the downtown area of Niagra on the Lakes. The little town is the same town that they filmed "Its a Wonderful Life" a popular Christmas time movie starring Jimmy Stewart. There are many beautiful wineries in the area, and most of them have wonderful restaurants and tasting facilities. We particularly enjoy it in the fall. The proprietors are wonderful hosts, and the breakfasts are excellent. Love the fireplace in the room, which makes for a romantic evening.

Typically when we visit this region we stay at the better known accommodations. On a whim, we extended our stay in Niagara on the Lake by one night and booked last minute to stay at Harbour House. The best decision we've ever made! I expect this will become our favourite spots to stay going forward. Attention to detail is clear in the home-baked smells in the lobby, beautifully appointed rooms, and friendly staff. Everything was taken care of from our dinner reservations and the free shuttle service to and from the restaurant. We had a very enjoyable happy hour in the hotel lobby where we mingled and chatted with other guests sipping on wine and sampling a fantastic cheese pot (I even got the recipe from them!) The hotel offers a lovely view of the harbour and a more personal touch than the larger hotels in the area.

Thank you for your wonderful comments! I am glad to hear that you enjoyed our afternoon wine (and potted cheese) reception. It is a great time to chat with our other guests to find out the highlights of their day, all the while sitting in front of the fireplace enjoying a glass of Niagara VQA wine.

We would love to hear on your visit with us how your potted cheese turned out.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Dickson

This was a perfect retreat for a romantic weekend trip. We stayed in a King room with large whirlpool tub and harbor view. It was a quick few minute walk into the main drag in town, and a block away from a scenic riverside walk. The atmosphere is cozy and classy, and the complimentary wine and cheese next to the fireplace was great. The staff was attentive and helpful, especially Maggie and Cooper. They gave excellent winery recommendations. We would love to come back here again.

Room Tip: Whirlpool tub is fantastic
