When visiting Niagara-on-the-lake, we decided to visit one of the vineries. Stil all these North American wines, which do not come from Napavalley are not very well know. On the other side, many vineries are well organized and welcome visitors.
At Pillitteri we actually did not visit the vinery but the wine tasting section and had some lunch afterwords. The tasting section is nice and very well organized. We were greeted very friendly and got a lot of explanation. As we come from Europe, we know plenty of old world vineries and were suprised by both the competence and the quality offered at Pilliteri. We enjoyed several of the wines - both red and wine. If you visit, make sure to taste the Icewine. Pilliteri claims to be the world number one producer. The wine is definetly worthwile. A pitty, that you just don't get these wines in most liquor shops and definetly not in Europe.
After the tasting we had some lunch. They have a souther BBQ truck next door that carters quite good food (I have lived in the South - it is competitive) and had a glass of wine. For each glass we got shooping coupons for the same value - so quite a good deal.
