“Terrific Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We just came back from a two night stay at the B&B, and could not be more pleased. We had a complete suite, with two bathrooms. The art on the walls by Lois is just beautiful and sets the tone of the place. Bright and cheery. Everything was just perfect; the beds, the breakfast, and the hospitality. Very helpful and caring hosts. We hope to go back some time soon.

My wife and I have spent the Victoria Day weekend at this B & B for the last 4 years. We now don't even consider another location. We attend several plays at the Shaw Festival on this weekend and the location is perfect. The room is very private and very clean. Breakfast is a work of art for Lois, and Frans is very good at serving it with a smile. A great way to start the day. If you need to know something about Niagara on the Lake just ask and they likely will know the answer. Great hosts.

Two days notice to spend a long weekend in NOTL... sounds like the beginning of a comedy of misadventures, right? My stay at the 1818 Rising Sun B&B was fraught with superior service from delightful hosts, a spacious suite of rooms with their own private entrance, and even some surprise shopping. If you're looking for a comedy of errors, you won't find it here. Instead, you'll find a gregarious gentleman and his beautiful bride anticipating your every need, right down to having the coffee pot ready to go so all you have to do is click a button in the morning. Breakfast is delivered to your dining table in your private sitting room, which doubles as a gallery for the paintings of your very talented hostess and the source of a perfect gift for my sis-in-law. Although covered in snow when I visited, the back garden was lovely and inviting (as seen through the bedroom window), and will be part of my next visit. I'll be bringing my bed-hog hubby, but we'll have tons of room in the oh-so-very-comfy king-size bed to rest from our wanderings through the picturesque village and eclectic shops. My only complaint? I hadn't planned to stay longer during my first visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rising Sun. The accommodations, ideally located close to the center of town, were ideal for a single couple and included a suite of rooms- a bedroom, separate sitting room and two bathrooms with beautiful paintings spread throughout the suite. The host and hostess were wonderful, friendly and available to help with any questions or other issues. We had a group of 4 couples, three of whom stayed across the street at Abacot Hall(also extremely nice) and ourselves who stayed in Rising Sun. It really worked well with the host and hostess of both B&B's working together to make all of our visits enjoyable and comfortable. We would definitely return to Rising Sun upon our next visit to Niagara on the Lake.

We have a wonderful stay at 1818 Rising Sun B&B.
As a matter of fact this is not just B&B but a separate suit with big bedroom, kitchen, a small hall and 2 bathrooms. The hosts do everything to provide their guests with maximal possible privacy.
The hostess is a painter, and the walls are richly decorated with her wonderful works. The apartment is furnished with great taste.
The breakfast does not include any exquisite or specific dishes but if you need something original for your lunch or dinner you can get it in an excellent restaurant "Rest" about 50 meters from the B&B.
We enjoyed every minute of our 2 days staying.

We drove from upstate New York to the Niagara on the Lake/Niagara Falls area without any reservations we were not sure if wanted to stay in NOTL or Niagara Falls. After fighting Toronto traffic for 90 minutes on a Sunday afternoon all we wanted was to get out of the car as quickly as possible. We stopped at the Ontario Visitors Center off the QEW at the exit for NOTL and a guy there recommended staying in NOTL and proceeded to pull up the available B&B's. (Most likely he could tell we needed someplace that would have a "calming effect".) This one popped up and we jumped on it....talk about lucking out!
Lois and Frans are wonderful hosts with great recommendations as the other reviewers have mentioned. The setup was perfect - private entrance, lovely bedroom/bathroom, little sitting area outside, wine cooler/glasses, Lois's beautiful paintings gracing the B&B suite and all within walking distance of downtown and a winery or two.. We strolled up to one winery, purchased a bottle and came back to the B&B, popped the cork, had a glass and then walked downtown to dinner. We couldn't have asked for more....but the next morning we did. Unfortunately others knew the charm of the place and we couldn't get a 2nd night! Luckily Frans and Lois pointed us to a neighbor's B&B where we spent the 2nd night. Next time I'll plan better - we're sold on NOTL and the Rising Sun B&B. Niagara Falls is just a hop, skip and jump down the road if you're interested in seeing the falls etc....but NOTL and a B&B like Rising Sun are what a vacation is about.

We just finished a 3-day stay at the 1818 Rising Sun and if you like quiet, private, clean and very comfortable accommodations, then this is the B&B for you while you are taking in the sights and sounds of Niagara-on-the-Lake and surrounding area. The gracious hosts, Lois and Frans, were very accommodating, providing us with some excellent information on the local restaurants (e.g., Olde Angel Inn), great suggestions on the local vineyards to visit and provided storage for our bikes. This B&B is on the top of our list… we highly recommend it!!!
