“Great Theatre”

Saw three wonderful performances. Guys & Dolls was musical theatre at its best. We were especially taken by "Trifles".

What a great production of this play. We loved it! It was hard not to sing along with the talented cast. See it if you can.

“Great theatre!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Loved the classic musical Guys and Dolls. Really enjoyed a somewhat more modern version of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's fan, with music by Rufus Wainwright and others.

“Major Barbara delivers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

This is a great production. The acting is very good across all the parts. The message is also timely, which can not be said of all of Shaw's plays.

“Shaw Festival Theatre: Major Barbara by Bernard Shaw”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

We had the pleasure of attending an afternoon venue of Major Barbara, held at the Royal George Theatre in downtown Niagara-on-the-Lake. This is a thought provoking play that I recommend to anyone with teenagers or older children who like to lecture you on the evil ways of our generation. The play was written in 1905, being pre-World War I during an European arms race. It pits moral values of a Salvation Army volunteer daughter against her wealthy arms manufacturer father. The wiser father wins the argument, showing that youthful ideals don't always get it right - when the complexities of real life are fully analysed.

The afternoon audience did not fill the entire theatre, which is a shame since it was a performance worthy of a standing ovation. It often takes a full house to trigger the spontaneous wave of stand-up claps the actors deserved. There are lessons this play can teach to our generation as well. about the virtues of capitalism, even though it was written by a socialist.

The small theatre environment allows everyone a great view and a sense of belonging to the stage action.
