I take my girlfriend to NOTL every year for her birthday, and this is her favourite place to stay! Sylvia, James(and the pets) are wonderful, friendly, and make you welcome in their home. The breakfast served to us is delicious and plentiful - a nice touch being set up on the patio when requested. A short walk to a lakeside park through a lovely neighbourhood is one of the perks of this location. If its available, do yourselves a favour and take the private room at the side wing of the property! Separate bedroom, lots of extra room especially in the whirpool tub, and the wonderful outdoor patio. If you're a pet lover, the dogs are great and will come and join you at the patio table for some nice relaxing lounging. Tried the Ginger restaurant for the first time(basically right next door), recommended if a touch of Asian is your style. The view from the patio at the Riverbend Inn overlooking the vineyard, especially at sunset, is worth the stop for a bite to eat. Check out La Cachette at the Strewn Winery (as well as the wine store there!), and got some great wine at Konzelmann's right down the road. As usual, the musical was top notch and incredibly funny. By the way, if you like to bike, they have a set of bicycles for loan to take in the nice neighbourhood. We're already booking for next year again. I hope this is a help to others planning on coming to this little jewel of a town.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2008

The room was small and very full. In order to put anything in the bathroom, like a toothbrush, I had to remove a half a dozen things. Same with the bedside table and the closet. Stuff on every surface, every wall, and ten(!) pillows plus a teddy bear on the bed. Using the fridge in the small closet required serious contortions. There was tea (for sale) in the closet, but nowhere to make a cup. Nor were we offered any during our three day stay.

The room was accessed up a steep stairway which ended in a small (3' x 3') landing with no light. Going down the stars in the evening was a bit scary.

Breakfast was served in the room on a tiny table. Much energy seemed to go into garnishing the plate and less into the food. In a B&B, I'm used to having toast or a muffin with breakfast, but not here.

This is a keyless B&B. The front door is operated by a number pad lock. Great. However, there was no lock on the room, and one day we came home to find our door open. We didn't feel confident leaving our computer or other things in the room after that. Anyone could enter.

I think the real problem here was attitude. When we mentioned having a poor night's sleep because the couple in the next room had a loud and giggly jaccuzzi between 1:30 and 2:30 AM, our concerns were dismissed with the hostess saying "I didn't hear it. It didn't bother me."

I can honestly say this is one of the nicest B&Bs we have ever stayed in, and we have been to NOTL several times and have stayed in dozens of B&Bs across North America.

The room was nicely decorated and very clean, with a two-person jacuzzi tub, a gas fireplace, and a balcony. Bed was very comfortable.

The hosts, Silvia & James, are great -- friendly and helpful but not overly chatty. Breakfast was FANTASTIC both days we were there; wonderful omelette and quiche and a ton of fresh fruit. One morning we took breakfast outside on the balcony and James serenaded us with his guitar -- amazing.

The location is quiet; it's a 5-minute drive to the main downtown area, or a longish walk. In the other direction are the little public golf course and a few wineries, including Strewn, where we took a wonderful two-day cooking course. Across the street from the B&B and a short stroll down the road is a lovely park on Lake Ontario, which is a gorgeous spot to watch the sunset.

Of course the big attraction for us is that they allow dogs. They have two big (well-behaved) sheepdogs and two cats, so definitely don't stay here if you don't like pets! But if you do like animals or want to bring your own, this is a great place. They have a big fenced yard and the walk to the lake is a great walk. They were great with our dog and didn't mind us leaving her in the room while we were out. (And she was happy to snooze on the four-poster canopy bed.)

This was a lovely place to stay and I could definitely see us returning.
