We went down to Niagara on the Lake and enrolled for a week long session in the Wine Country Cooking School. It was an absolutely great way to spend a week! The Winery was an absolutely beautiful setting and the kitchen is a great space to work and learn. The instructor Jane ensured that everyone was comfortable, regardless of your skill level in the kitchen. She has incredible recipes that focus on the local produce and local artisanal ingredients. After spending the morning cooking, you get to eat the results in a lunch with the owner and winemaker at Strewn where he matches wines to the meals and gives guidance in wine pairings. The recipes not only gave me the courage to try a few dishes that had always intimidated me, but it will change how we cook day to day from now on. Joe, the winemaker, also opened my eyes to not only the wine making process, but many truly fantastic Niagara wines. We had fun, we learned and we made great friends, I would recommend the school to anyone who loves food and wine and wants to spend a day or a week (my preference) recapturing a love of cooking.
