“Two times too many”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

We recently stayed, for the second time, at Sterling Inn & Spa in Niagara Falls.
Our first time was four years ago and my review at that time was tentative but thought another chance was in order.

As many have indicate in their reviews, the Front Desk staff certainly needs a few pointers in Customer Service. It got to the point where we wouldn't even say hello when walking by because they wouldn't even acknowledge you. The fact this ‘lack of service’ is mentioned so many times should indicate to management that something just isn't right?

Given the wide range of reviews, I am convinced that they have two types of service and rooms. One for those that book directly with the hotel and one for those that use 3rd party bookings such as Hotwire, Expedia, etc.

Our room was OK, but nothing special and you could sense it was one of the ‘other’ rooms, especially since it was right beside the elevator even though we had reserved it months ago.
A couple other things:
• Sparse room amenities. For example, I had to call down for a couple of wine glasses and opener (which was covered in something)...come on, this is Niagara wine region!
• Since last time they didn't have one available, I had requested a whirlpool tub this visit by calling a few weeks prior to and then again during check in, but was told none were available. Once again, I had made the reservation months ago.
• Left for the day around 10:00, came back around 3:00 and our room hadn't been refreshed. When we found a housekeeper, they said they work on those checking in first and will try to get to ours as soon as they can, but they are done working at 4:30. We elected to take a couple new towels and toiletries instead.
• Internet access was very spotty at best.
• Breakfast was not very inspiring, leaving most of it untouched on the tray.
• Although the bed was comfortable, there were lots of background noises, such as the A/C, fridge, water, creaking, etc. that made it difficult to get a good night’s sleep.

We had also taken the time to fill out the suggestion form (which was in our room), however upon asking the front desk where the suggestion box was, they indicated there wasn't one and just to hand it to them. Although we did, we also assumed it probably wouldn't find its way to those that should be reading it.

Needless to say, this was our last visit to Sterling Inn & Spa.

While visiting the Niagara Falls we stayed at this hotel for one night. The staff is very friendly and helped us with a lot of information what to do and see at Niagara Falls. Unfortunately there is no ramp so getting in with heavy suitcases involves some lifting.

The rooms are large and give a warm feeling. The bed is comfortable but the pillows are a bit flat. The room had a hard wooden floor which was very clean as was the rest of the room. Sadly the air conditioning was a bit noisy and the venetian blinds let a lot of light trough, so we were awake early.

Their is a good complementary breakfast and free wifi. It would be nice if the wifi signal was a bit stronger in the room because we lost wifi connection so now and then.

Our room also included a steam cabine and a terrace.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bath (some rooms have one for the same price)

I was just at The Sterling Inn&Spa, we were thoroughly disappointed, we came in with high expectations due to the reviews we read, upon check in staff was not kind very cold, and another couple was complaining about not getting what they had booked and the hotel staff was not understanding to that they were very rude and gave a very short answer basically blaming EXPEDIA and washing there hands, when 5 minutes later I was at the front desk complaining about the VERY SAME issue and they proceeded to wash there hands of blaming BOOKING.COM, the room was OK the mattress was EXTREMELY HARD I woke up with a sore arm that I have had to take Advil for, I was a bit disgusted in the fact that I had to squish a few centipedes and we had some odd flying bugs in our room too, I have been to the falls many times and I see that hotels with "lower" ratings such as the BEST WESTERN or HOLIDAY INN are much much more friendly much more accommodating, upon check out we didn't even get a "how was your stay" and then to top it off we even received the WRONG BILL with someone else's personal information. This hotel has ALOT of growing to do. Overall very disappointed not worth spending over 200 dollars for a WEEKDAY stay.

This hotel is very unique and sublime! the free parking and wi-fi were definitely (2) things that drew us to this hotel, we were well received with a polite and very accommodating desk staff that gave us an upgraded room no charge! . the hardwood floors were a pleasant surprise not to mention the fire place with the 40 inch flat screen over the top definitely help set the mood! The firm king size bed definitely was a welcome as we both had plenty of space:) The rainfall showers was an invigorating experience and the jacuzzi could fit the both of us very comfortably.Everything is within walking distance and the WeGO bus stop is just a hopscotch away from the hotel. Breakfast in bed was also a very nice hotel gesture one that was not expected, this hotel is a really a nice hideaway for couples! one that my fiance' and I intend on revisiting.

Room Tip: All the rooms tend to have there on personality! desk staff will usually recommend an upgrade!

My wife and I spent a night away from home at the Sterling Inn in February. We live nearby in Toronto and wanted to do something fun within a short drive from our home in Toronto. We've both been to Niagara Falls several, so this trip was just about relaxing at the hotel.

I've never stayed anywhere in the Falls before, but we wouldn't return here. The hotel felt like it was showing wear and tear, and the front desk staff were generally cold/unfriendly towards us. The breakfast delivered to our room door wasn't anything memorable. The jacuzzi tub was nice, but a lot of hotels in the Falls offer this so it's not enough of a draw to return.

There's nothing particularly wrong with this hotel, but it didn't have any "wow" factor that would entice us to come back.

The hotel shares a parking lot with a magician's theater and faces a little stucco house called "the Polish House". The front door is a large gray milk bottle left over from its days as a milk processing plant. And then... you go inside. Wow! Our room was HUGE! We had a sitting area with a couch, a faux fireplace and flatscreen TV and then stepped down to the next level to our four poster, king sized bed. The entire room had to be 800 square feet or more. All of the furnishings were new, clean and upscale. Our window overlooked the parking lot so the blinds were drawn all of the time but the lighting was so good, we could go from bright to warm with the flick of a switch or two. The climate control worked well and the ceiling fan was beautiful and kept the air circulating well. Our bathroom was luxurious and fantastic! There was a large glassed shower with rain shower option or body jet sprays or a combination (your choice). The jacuzzi filled rapidly and was perfect for two people. We were given plush bathrobes and the towels were large and absorbent. The bedding was also of high quality and the bed was firm and comfortable. The location was also ideal. It rained the night we were there so we didn't walk out to see the fireworks. We were close enough that we could hear them and see them reflected off another hotel nearby. We were able to walk to all of the attractions but there was no traffic to deal with near our hotel and no noise. It was just an ideal place to stay and the spa had reasonable rates for massages (especially after using the $25 off coupon given to us by the hotel). There was also a very nice restaurant in the hotel (we were given another discount coupon for this as well) but we didn't get a change to eat there. We will when we go back as we will definitely go back to this hotel!!!

Room Tip: We didn't have a view but the fireplace was a great substitute.
