“fun time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We were 4 adults and 3 kids (8, 4 and 3 year olds). it was february and it was COLD. We had a great time in the water park. there are a variety of activities, pools, slides. We all had a great time. Kids were really impressed by the main lobby decoration too. rooms are big and comfortable. Our room's view was bad (the loading area) but we spent most of our time in the water park and in teh lobby. The only downside was food. It was really expensive. I wish there were more variety and less expensive. We will go back for sure.

My husband and I took our two kids to a weekend getaway at Great Wolf Lodge Niagara Falls and we had an ok time but were disappointed. The lobby is nice and there are lots of things for the kids to see. Our room was also decent, the kids liked the lodge decor and they liked their lodge bunkbeds. There was a video game console in the room but it didn't work at all, even though it was supposed to be included in the package I purchased. It wasn't a big deal since we weren't there to play video games but it would have been nice if it did work so they could play while we unpacked. The food was not very good at all. The kids were okay with it but it was all very average, cafeteria-type fare. The indoor pools were nice but be prepared for it to be very warm in there. The kids did really enjoy the indoor pool area. On the second day of our stay we played mini-golf and we enjoyed that as well. What really disappointed me was that while we were enjoying the outdoor pool, there was a fouling (fecal matter) by another youngster in the pool. I immediately took my kids out of the pool and told one of the lifeguards what I had seen and I pointed it out to him. The lifeguard proceeded to tell me that it was a flower from a nearby tree that had fallen into the pool and that he would just scoop it out. It was not until I and several other patrons insisted that this was not a flower, that he admitted that indeed there had been a fouling and not until about 20 minutes later did they get the other patrons out of the pool. I know the fouling was not their fault, but it should have been handled much better than that. On a positive note, we did treat our kids to a pedicure spa treatment which they really did like. Overall it was okay, but not great.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the check-in or gift shop areas as it gets very loud

Average fun for adults line ups kill the fun. Food was ok. Service took a long long time. Price of stuff very expensive. Would go back because of kids. Rooms were big. Check out early thus had to use common change rooms which if inconvenient.

Everything people say about Great Wolf is usually true - they absolutely bend over backwards to ensure your family, especially the kids, have a wonderful time. The waterpark is huge, the entertainment is first rate, the accommodations excellent, but it's just SOOOO expensive.

Highlights:
Story time was a HUGE hit with the kids and a must-do for any family. The craft camp was a big hit, as was the ice cream shoppe! The trip of course centers around the waterpark, which is pretty cool. We had a great time and the kids still talk about it. The staff are second to none... they truly get right into their job and make it so much fun for the kids.
The Sunday brunch was wonderful and very, very reasonable. We had impeccable service, the food was fantastic and it was a great end to the weekend.

Lowpoints:
Price. It's insanely expensive for a weekend. The price drops during the week, but for families looking for a weekend of quality time and fun, be prepared to take out a second mortgage.
Check-in was very slow. The line-up was huge and the process itself took forever. There has got to be a quicker way to check in. Even if they have to implement an "express check-in" feature so that people can log in to their online reservation, answer all the questions front desk staff would ask, and submit the info. This would save on time, line-ups and kids who know the check-in process is what is standing between them and waterpark fun.

Tips:
Don't order food/room service. It's insanely expensive. You're much better off venturing into the clifton hill area or getting take-out off-site.
Get to the lobby early for story-time. It's standing-room-only crowded, but soooo worth it.
Skip restaurant dessert and instead take a trip down to the ice cream shoppe - worth it!

We went on a Friday night, as we are locals and got a great deal to stay in the majestic bear suite. The accessible room on the first floor was very far from the waterpark, so we opted for the 3rd floor since there was an elevator. The waterpark is extremely busy and it's almost impossible to get a sitting area if you go after 10am on Saturday. Minus the lineups for slides, it was great.

Group of 8 stayed in a Loft suite for my daughter's 13th birthday party. 5 girls - aged 13 - 15 and 3 Adults.

We arrived around 1:00 p.m. to check in and were met with a very long line. Check in took about an hour as there were only 3 staff checking people in. About 3/4 through our wait a 2nd, separate, area was opened wtih 2 staff to check people in. We thought they would simply take people from the current line but they started a new line which resulted in people walking right in and being able to check in while the line up we were in still was not moving. Poor setup. Have been before and check in is always an issue.

Loft suite was exactly as pictured and the kids were happy. One good thing that we didn't know was that there was a 2nd washroom upstairs in the loft which was very nice.

Waterpark was good but they definately need more chairs. When we got there most chairs were held with towels. We did not see many people actually using the chairs. Found a spot in the bar area.

Drinks were very expensive. $3.50 for a pop. Trend for the entire hotel. All food and drinks were terribly overpriced. Service was very slow as well. Went to the coffee shop in the morning and waited forever. There were 3 separate people ahead of us who finally gave up and left. Last time we were here it was the same thing.

There is a tiny (2 small cups at most) coffee maker in the room with a fridge and microwave. Would definately recommend bringing your own food. We found that the food was not only expensive but cold and not tasty.

As we stayed close to Halloween there was a dance at night which was fun. It was held in the lobby so it was pretty tight but we all got dressed up and had fun.

Didn't do the MagiQuest. Checked in the gift shop for info and was told that the minimum is $35.00 per person. You must buy the quest and the want separately. Depending on which want you buy the price goes up. Saw several people doing the quest as it is just spread out in the hallways outside guest rooms. Looked kind of cool but not $35.00 cool. We passed.

We only stayed one night so we packed up the car in the morning and headed down to the waterpark. Was surprised that there is now a charge for lockers. We have been in the past and there was no charge - wristbands opened the lockers for free. Had an issue with the girl at the store where you buy your lockers. Wanted a locker in the changeroom and she gave us one in the waterpark. Went back and asked to change and for some reason she was very argumentative about it. Long and short of it - took 10 minutes to get her to change it and then she huffed and "whatevered" us. Not impressed.

Lineups were long in the waterpark until about dinner time on Saturday. Lines died down a bit around 2:00 on Sunday as well. All in all - kids had fun and that was the point. We didn't have any interaction with the staff other than check in. Told them at check in that it was my daughter's 13th birthday that day but it wasn't acknowledged in any way - even though she was standing beside me - not even a "Happy Birthday".

Overall, it was good - not great. For the money I expect more. Our room was $500.00 for one night (although there were 8 of us). I don't think we will return. There is a 2nd indoor waterpark in Niagara Falls (Fallsview Resort) that we would try in the future.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for the theme rooms. You are in the waterpark most of the time so you don't...

My children (4 and 7) loved the water park for short periods of time, but I wanted to warn anyone who is used to a quite nighttime or whose children do not cope well with loud noise that the rooms do not protect against noise from the hallway or lobby at all. There was a dance party going on in the lobby and we were about halfway down the hallway and it was like being in the dance party with music, people yelling and running down the hallway to and from the party. My children could not get to sleep for almost three hours past their normal bedtime due to the noise and were woken up three times during the night by noises. By contrast, they went to sleep and slept soundly at an airport hotel with rooms well protected from the noise of planes taking off on another trip. After no sleep (they got up at the normal time), we left early the next day as the noise of the waterpark was just too much on no sleep. Probably not an issue for children who sleep well or are used to noisy places, but we live on a quiet street and they aren't used to loud music or traffic noise at night.
