“St Valentine stay Pool great .Room hot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014

This is the second time we stood at this hotel. Ya a second Valentines LOL
The main reason we came back was the Pool.Little did we know it's a salt water pool .There was a family with a two kids. The younger one gets very dry skin from the chlorine and this pool doesn't bother him.
Look at the photos of the pool on line it's really is that nice. Not the ya right how they make it look so good.
The bar was nice and the lobby looks like a ski lodge.

My only gripe was the room was very warm ok HOT. We were on the 16fl. Setting the thermostat to 60 still was blowing very warm air. It felt like a Hot summer night. Needless to say didn't sleep well.
I ask the about the hot room and they check on it while we were out. There solution was to turn off the heat and gave us a small fan on the dresser. I would have ask for a another room but it really did help.

Over all a nice stay.
If you want to recharge till summer this is it. " pool wise that is"

Room Tip: Our room was 1608. I'd avoid it till heat/cooling is fixed. Ask for a higher floor for a better...

It's 4 am and I'm sitting in front of a small vent in the window trying to get some cool fresh air cause it's 80 DEGREES in our room ! No matter how clean a hotel is and how friendly the staff and how wonderful the amenities , if you can't sleep cause its too hot in the room then it ruins the whole experience.. I was so looking forward to a nice weekend with my family in Niagara Falls, but as I sit here in my underwear , sweating , and its 20 degrees outside I'm thinking God help the person at the front desk in the morning.. I already complained to the front desk and they sent up a space heater to use as a fan..NOT WORKING! They said cause it's been so cold the hotel is hot and I should turn down the thermostat.. I explained to them it was set at 60 degrees and still pumping out hot air ..they said there was nothing they could do. I see from a few of the other reviews this has been an ongoing problem , now I'm no interior environment expert but maybe they could .. oh I don't know.. " TURN DOWN THE HEAT!" So I sit here in my underwear writing this review at 4 am with a cold cloth on my neck looking out the window at all the wonderful snow and thinking would I stay here again? Hmmm ...and I'm not even gonna mention the $12 they charge you to park on top of the already inflated room charge..please ...oh look, the Courtyard by Marriott is right across the street , I wonder if they have a thermostat on their furnace?

We regret to learn of your discomfort with the guestroom temperature. Extreme temperatures (-20 later this week, coldest has been in our are in 20 years) had housekeeping pre-warming the guestrooms prior to arrival to a higher temperature than normal. We have adjusted the temperature down. We are expecting to be back to seasonal temperatures in a week and can discontinue. The thermostats in the guestrooms were installed in 2013 as digital versus the older style, the thermostats are not to blame. We hope to restore your faith in DoubleTree on a future visit to the area.

My friend and I recently took advantage of your wonderful "Great Escape Package" which we have done for the past few years every February. We have ALWAYS raved to our friends about the excellent Hilton accommodations we had enjoyed. Unfortunately this year we thought we were in the wrong hotel. Upon checking in , due to my Hilton member status we were given a complimentary upgrade which was much appreciated . From that point we ran into difficulty. When we reached the room on the 11th floor and opened the door it was as if we had walked into a sauna. We tried to adjust the in room thermostat but the temperature would not drop ( which we were later informed by the front desk, was the way the new controls worked). Upon letting the front desk know (the next morning) that we experience a VERY uncomfortable sleep due to the heat we were told that it was due to the drastic weather we have experienced this winter. Now my question to management is why was this not affecting the room temperature of our friends who were staying in the nearby Sheraton Fallsview or the Marriott hotels ( during the same days)? It seems odd that only the Hilton hotel has been affected. The staff at the front desk sent up a gentleman to have a look at the thermostat who advised us that aside from opening the small vents beneath the windows (which we had done), to shut the unit off completely,,,, and then he returned with a fan. Now the room cooled down somewhat but we did have to put up with the noise of the fan running throughout the night. We have been been so disappointed ,particularly by how this problem was addressed. We were called by a manager and asked how the room was the second night but again just given the same excuse regarding the weather. For a Hilton , this is far below what we have come to expect……a fan? Really, this is how you address a guest's discomfort , after admitting that the heat could not be controlled? Four star…… not any more.

We are sorry to learn of your continued discomfort. We apologize for any short comings on our part including any misunderstanding on our follow-up call. We understood your concerns had been addressed. Please take into consideration we have been experiencing extreme weather conditions and will be back at -20 degree weather this week. What we have been doing is taking extra precaution in ensuring all guestrooms are warm with heat put up higher, prior to arrival. After a day of travel or sightseeing in the frozen Fallsview district, this is well received by most guests. Temperatures are expected to be back to normal seasonal weather in about a week, and this will be a non-issue. In the interim, we have lowered the pre-arrival temperature setting in the guestrooms.

We have stayed at the Double Tree before and had a great experience. At that time we had stayed in a jacuzzi room however I stronly recommend the suite we had this time around. It was so large and bright. Everything was exceptionally clean and we would definitely stay in this suite again and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Higher floors would have a view of the falls

Thank you for your kind comments. I too love the two room suites. They are so bright from the many windows and give you such a nice view of the entire area. It sounds like you had a fallsview suite. We really do appreciate your comments as it helps us to maintain our service standards and helps others looking for a nice play to stay while in Niagara. Thank you for your loyalty.

Stayed here on New Year's Eve 2013 in a 2 queen bed room.

Front desk staff were OK although first impression was that they were not friendly. Check in wait time was longer than it should have been with 4 people working at the front desk but only 2 checking people in. Why wouldn't checking in or servicing guests be more important than what they were doing?

Warm cookies upon checkin were tasty.

Lobby is nice with comfortable seating and a large fireplace. Café in the lobby area as well as a little gift shop with most of your needs if you left some toiletries are home.

Room was very clean and comfortable. It was drafty near the window though.

Entranceway had a small fridge as you entered on the left, beside that was the bathroom (on the small side) and beside that was a small closet. Beds were straight ahead and were clean and comfortable. Room was average sized. There was a desk and chair as well as TV and drawers. in the room.

Parking is outside of the hotel and it was crowded probably since it was New Year's Eve.

Pool and hot tub were nice.

It was about a 15 to 20 minute walk down to the New Year's Eve festivities. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

We got a breakfast package and breakfast was good and plentiful. Fresh fruit, tea/coffee, yogurt, bacon, sausages, eggs, toast, oatmeal and other cereals. Our server was fabulous and provided excellent service.

Great central place to stay in Niagara Falls and would stay here again, although it is very expensive on New Year's Eve.
