We originally booked in to the Lyons hostel for two nights and ended up staying for 4! This was simply because we were made to feel very welcome and there is lots to do! Patrick and Shelly could not do enough for us. The mixed dorms and private room were spotlessly clean. The bathroom is well equipped with a very large bath and the most powerfull shower I have ever experienced! There are kitchens on all levels of the hostel which appeared to be well equipped although we only used the fridge.Patrick, when asked, advised us on where best to vist/eat and upon taking his advice we were never disappointed. We hired bikes from Patrick one day and rode to Niagara on The Lake where we visited wineries that had been recommended and enjoyed some tastings! We purchased Adventure passes which saved us about 40% on several attractions including Maid Of The Mist, Journey Behind The Falls, White Water Walk, Aero Car, Niagaras Fury, two days transportation on the Parkway shuttle and many more attractions that we simply didnt have time to do! There are lots of free things to do to. Nature trails llead down to the rapids where you can sit on rocks and watch the world go by. The Botanical Gardens are worth a visit...also free. Anyone planning to visit Niagara must stay at Lyons House. The location is fantastic, spotlessly clean (I often heard Shelly scrubbing the floors!), Very friendly (Patrick simply couldnt help us enough!), very secure (locked luggage room available), 5 mins to the falls and all the fantastic attractions. Essentials while staying at Lyons House...Maid of the Mist (one of the best experiences ever!), bike hire - cycle to Niagara on the Lake (50k round trip but lots to se on the way!). Visit the Lyons Hostel and you are sure to find a friendly welcome and have an unforgetable experience!
