We arrived mid-evening on a Thursday and stayed through Sunday. We were greated by great service from the valet and bellman. I was traveling from Massachusetts to Canada and it turned out to be about a 10-hour trip with stops. While the two 15-year-old girls napped for half the trip, I was the sole driver and very tired upon our arrival.
Check-in was a breeze and the bellman waited with my daughter and her friend within view while I checked in. Beware, as reported before, room was unavailable and they pushed to upgrade me to a jr. presidential suite for additional $ or give me a "smoking" room with a hotel credit. I just kept on insisting that the piece of paper guaranteed me the a non-smoking room. I did get upgraded to a room with a whirlpool tub on the 33rd floor without the additional $. Be persistent.
Needless to say, we were exhausted and there was a long line for the steak house so we opted for Friday's. STAY AWAY! The service was slow - over half an hour+ to get chips and salsa with soup and salad. It was the worst food that I have had in a very long time. The soup was almost too salty to eat and the salad looked like it had been sitting out all day as I picked out the brown edged greens. Little did we know there is an Applebee's just around the corner. On top of that, prices were outrageous with the dinner bill for chips/salsa, 2 soups & salads and one chicken strip plate amounting to over $70 Canadian.
Settled in for the night to watch the amazing light show on both falls Thursday evening. Window was somewhat clean but we didn't dare open the louvered part because of giant spiders moving about in each of the window corners as well as between the glass and screen -- Yuck!
Room was neat as a pin but the furniture seating and cushions were extremely stained. Pillows were like soft cotton balls while the bedding was like sleeping on a piece of plywood. This hotel definitely needs a bedding upgrade.
Hotel is very convenient to falls area when incline railway is running (1 pm to 8 pm) but nice weather had us walking through the park behind the casino and down Murray St. Beware - down is lots easier than up.
The breakfast staff was amazing and gave us great sightseeing tips and were very informative. And the buffet was great. We didn't opt for the cooked to order breakfast but enjoyed the buffet - no one went away hungry. Breakfast is served 7-9 am. We didn't wait long when we showed up between 8-8:30 am.
Manager's reception is not very interesting - olives, pickles, carrots and dip, pretzels and some tidbit mix. Non-alcoholic drinks as well as your two alcoholic coupons per night. Formica table tops just outside the steakhouse. Get there early as they shut off the food and non-alcoholic drinks at 7:30 even though the reception goes longer.
Steakhouse was yummy and we really enjoyed our meal there. While not directly next to the windows, we did have a falls view. My daughter loved the presentation of her salmon meal and ate every bite. Her friend and I enjoyed our steaks.
Things we packed into 2 days: Maid of the Mist, Journey Behind the Falls, Cirque Niagara, Butterfly Conversatory (free parking), visit to Clifton Hill area (parking at the top of the hill is only $5 for the day) for souvenirs, a ride around the parkway. I highly recommend the dinner/Cirque Niagara combo. We chose the steakhouse restaurant and weren't disappointed.
Upon our departure, we called for the bellman who also arranged to have our car waiting. A simple less-than-two minute check-out and we had a bags packed into our car within 20 minutes of the phone call
Recommendations: I'd definitely rebook this hotel and the same exact room.
Go to AAA and get the Niagara Parks pass at a reduced rate.
Detraction: Friday's restaurant. Just don't bother.
