“Great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

What a wonderful place. Great views of the falls from our room and a very comfortable bed . This is our second time to this hotel but won't be our last , our favorite place to stay when in the area. With all the add one such as the casino voucher and winery tour you can't go wrong

4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We had a great stay at the Oakes. Had some concerns after reading the reviews and worried it might be a bit run down, but that wasn't the case at all. Overall, we were very pleasantly surprised. Rooms are huge (even had a sofa when you first walk in), nicely furnished, and very clean. Room, lobby, etc. seemed to be renovated.
And of course, great location right next to the funicular to the Falls, and to the Fallsview Casino and shops/restaurants.
Also loved the observation area on the 14th floor...amazing view, so that means the falls-view rooms should be awesome.

Hotel was in a great location. We got a room with a falls view and a jacuzzi. Staff where friendly and the housekeeper (Erin) did a great job having our room ready and was super friendly when passing by. Every morning we would see her and we would get a big smile and good morning. Made us feel very welcomed. All other staff where super friendly as well.
Thanks for the great experience

I stayed in room 256 last weekend and it was disgusting. Stained ceiling, smelly and a dirty towel. The registration lineup was only 3 people deep and there were 2 front desk staff. One was wiping down her counter while the other staff was quite unpleasant and never greeted or smiled once. It took about 12 minutes before the other staff decided to ask if she can help the next person. There was no urgency or effort to move the line faster. Good thing I was next at this time the line had 9 people waiting. The room seemed like it was in a dungeon and very distant from the actual hotel. Apparently they claim to have spent millions in renovations but the room had 3 large stains on the ceiling, had an odor and the room seemed dirty including a used towel. The walls were paper thin as I heard the guy next door coughing all night. And the view was basically the onramp to the Casino and parking lot. I expressed my concern to Heather and she had no emotions whatsoever and said she would notify housekeeping. At the end of the conversation she just hung up the phone. If you are not on the 9th floor or higher DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Room Tip: If you are not on the 9th floor and above don't waste your money.

Dear valued reviewer

Please acccept our apology, the room number you have given is our traditional room with 2 double beds and no view. we have been working since may 2014 on renovations and have completed numerous items on our list and we still continue to do improvements and renovate. We do have besutiful rooms with full and partial views of the falls. We try our best to offer clean rooms and various price points. We will and are continuing to improve our hotel so that all rooms are comfortable. I have noted your concerns and passed them to the Director of maintenance for further follow up.

Sincerely
Nicole

This past weekend we were guests at The Oakes Hotel Overlooking The Falls to celebrate a family member's 70th birthday.  We reserved two “Gourmet Getaway” packages for Saturday February 21, 2015.   The package components were fulfilled.  The five of us  enjoyed the room view, the excellent breakfast at Applebee’s restaurant, gaming coupons and late check-out, but we felt there was room for improvement with the quality of service provided as noted below.

We anticipated adjoining rooms and were placed in rooms next to one another with the capacity to adjoin, but not to one another.  The adjacent rooms had already been provided to other guests granted with the opportunity to check-in early (i.e. 1:10pm).  We also could have planned to arrive early but were advised check-in was at 3pm and we dutifully obliged.  Our child joined us for this celebration and interior access between the two rooms was what we had anticipated at the time of booking which was when unfulfilled was of great disappointment to all of us.

Remington’s of Niagara restaurant interior decor was lovely however the zoo-like atmosphere as the crowd size increased created a less than fine dining experience.  We were disappointed there was no alternate location available to hang  our winter accessories other than on the backs of our chairs.  As a self-promoted steak and seafood restaurant we anticipated at least one entré as steak and one as seafood from the pre-set menu which was not the case.  One family member ordered a  steak at an additional cost and was disappointed on how cold the scant few french fries were and undercooked vegetables.  They hesitated on commenting because we had already waited over an 1.5 hours for our meal.  The duration between placing our order and receiving our meal was too long.   U nfortunately  I made a poor selection in the Chicken Penne Rustica; the severe indigestion I endured all night will be forever remembered.  It crossed my mind later that instead of candies with the cheque, Tums or Rolaids would have much appreciated.   At the onset of the dining experience we requested a birthday song to mark the 70th birthday of our family member from our server and thought the wandering singing server would have fulfilled this request, but again were disappointed when this did not occur.  This overall dining experience truly made us feel like we were using a “coupon” rather than an inclusive “gourmet” travel package.

We also had lofty expectations of the hotel pool which from the lobby looked appealing but when we attempted to use it, not only was it cold, we had concerns about its cleanliness.  So rather than have this hotel amenity as an integral part of the experience (which our child had been anticipating since the time we booked), we had the unfortunate experience of explaining to and managing the reaction of a very disappointed person.

For some, these shortfalls would be inconsequential, but for this occasion based on our family dynamic, these shortfalls adversely impacted our celebration.   The package and the hotel have so much possibility yet based on the inconsistency of service for these areas in need of improvement, unfortunately we will not be return guests but we have learned a valuable lesson that you don’t always get what you pay for.

Room Tip: check in before set time of3pm if you want adjoining rooms.

Dear reviewer,

Thank you for your taking the time to write to us and also to let others know of your expereince here at the Oakes Hotel. Firstly i would like to apologize for the request not being met. We do try to full fill all request but at times it is not possible. At the very least we will place you on the same floor. We do not guarantee adjoinging rooms as there are a limited amount of them. I have copied the review and forwarded to the resturant so that they have a copy of how your dining experience was at remington's. I do hope you will rejoin us again on your next getaway to niagara Falls.

thank you
nicole

Stayed for couple weekend at this hotel under a winter wonder package. Great hotel, very nicely decorated. Booked the courtyard, jaquzzi room, It was massive and still had a falls view (second floor). Very happy with our stay, close to many retsurants, 10-15 minute walk downtown but at the top of the gondala ride to the welcome centre. Also greta location if youfrequent the casino. Only downside was $20/night parking (with hst and niagara tax was $50 to park for one weekend). Would definatly stay again

Our room, which was on the tenth floor, looked over Niagara Falls. The view was spectacular and breathtaking. The room was comfortable and welcoming. The staff was pleasant and helpful, although it took some time to register, but it was March break week. Over all it was a great experience.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper levels overlooking Niagara
