“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

I stayed here with my wife and two young children.

First the positive - the view from our room was excellent, directly overlooking Horseshoe Falls.

Now the important bit - this is an old hotel that is badly indeed of renovation. The rooms were dated and the parking lot was poor, the lobby small and very dated and the corridors were dark and dingy.

Housekeeping could do with improving, the rooms had been cleaned but you to the impression hat it was a very quick job.

One other point - he location was OK as it was better to higher up to get the great views. However, the funicular down to the falls was being replaced and is therefore not currently working. This means either a long walk, or a bus / taxi ride to get to the Falls.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else. The rooms here are small and very dated.

If it weren't for the view this would be a 100% negative review. I wish I could post pictures. The room smelled like stale smoke, the furniture as well as the comforter had rips in it. The bathroom is old and the 25" TUBE TV was just too much. I have never given a negative review to anything. I'm not a complainer. I usually just take things as they are, but for a Saturday stay at around $250 a night the hotel is not up to par.
Now the view is amazing. If all you care about is the view then you have it here. I cancelled my stay after one night and stayed next door at the Marriot for $10 more. The view is amazing there as well. Old Oaks definitely needs to jump ahead at least 2 decades.

Room Tip: If you stay at the Oakes get the Falls View room. Without the view it's a roadside motel quality...

Booked this hotel through Travelzoo promotion. Wasn't expecting much because of the bad reviews - but the room was better than expected. Even on the 4th floor facing the falls - the view wasn't great but you could see enough not to be disappointed. The room was nice and the bathroom was great with a jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Looks like it had be redone recently. The room also had a separate sitting area with a couch and TV. The promotion also included a 2 course dinner at Remington's - the food was good but the service was terrible! Not really the waitress's fault - she was the only person working the entire room with virtually no help. My only major complaint with this horel promotion had to do with the $50 NY casino. We went there on the way home and went through a lot of trouble getting into the casino due to construction going on all over the outside of the buyilding. We finally made it inside to the Promotions Booth only to find out that the hotel neglected to include the actual voucher with the package - just the instructions letter which I thought was all we needed to show. Casino said it was not the first time this happened either! There was nothing we could do at this point sincew we had spent an hour going through the border (and having our car searched too!) Feel this is inexcuseable on the part of the hotel and put a damper on the trip, but we had overall a pretty nice time in Niagara Falls and definitely will be going back someday.

After reading the reviews left by previous guest, my wife was skeptical about staying at the Oaks Hotel. Our first room was on the 9th floor overlooking the falls. But because of a heavy rainy season the trees were so tall you could barely see the falls. When I check with management they weren't able to move me that day. But on the next day we were moved to the 14th floor in the same type of suite overlooking the falls. It was breathtaking, my wife thoroughly enjoyed the room, amenities and everything that was offered. And of course she wants everyone to know that you shouldn't always believe everything that you read. Book a suite for yourself and check it out. We had a wonderful time the room was beautiful the area was wonderful but you do have to pay for parking which is $15 per day. We also booked a meal special for 69.00. Along with that came a free breakfast at Applebee's and free internet service for the duration of our stay. Check them out and enjoy your stay, take care. One last thing, don't be afraid to venture away from the falls, you will fine the same type of restaurants at normal prices instead of the inflated price at the falls.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a corner suite over looking the falls and and the city (above the 10th floor).

We didn't have any problems with this hotel. It doesn't have the bells and whistles I prefer but for a fallsview room with 2 beds it fit out needs. The room was small, reminicant of a US hotel in the 80's. The bathroom was smaller than small and was toilet and shower. We had a beautiful view of the falls. We were only here for two days, one night ( I really can't imagine a very long stay in Niagara Falls) so it's hard to have any real complaints. It was clean and people were courteous in the hotel. They do have an observation floor to see the falls, if it is a night for fireworks beware it will be packed, we were fortunate enough to get to watch them from our room. Parking was on the other side of the Applebees and just shy of $30 however there was a parking garage just next to that for the casino that was $10 so if you want to try and save a few $ you might try to park here after you drop off all of your luggage at the hotel. It is an easy walk to the falls through the back of the property, however the walk back is uphill and not fun if you are toting little ones around with you at midnight :-)

I'm very glad I chose not to listen to the reviews I read through tripadvisor. We had a room on the 12th floor overlooking the falls - it was amazing! Our room was very clean, the hotel was very quiet even for a holiday weekend, and the beds were rather comfortable for us. A few times we had to call the front desk and ask them questions since neither of us was familiar with Canada and they promptly answered. The Applebees next door is nice - but rather expensive in comparison to U.S. costs. The location can't be beat - you are within steps from Table Rock. Would definitely stay here again!

I just recently visited the The Oaks overlooking the falls, the view from the room was absolutely breathtaking the location is great, near all the attractions. The staff at the desk was professional but not very welcoming. I booked the rooms with a package but had no idea they do not provide shuttle service to get to the different wine vinyards for your wine tasting. Why include that in a package and not have transportation for your guest to travel to these different places. The package is already expensive and then you want to add another fee for travel. The dinner included at the Remnington Steak House was wonderful, the staff was very attentive, they provided live singing from the servers and transportation there and back was inlcuded. The breakfast at Applebee's was horrible, I would not recommend this to anyone. I should have shopped around for better deals, if you book with the Marriott they offer the same package but at least $200 dollars less. The mattress on the king bed was very hard they do sleep well at all, the sleeper sofa mattress was so thin you wakeup with body aches, I tried to pad it with extra linen but that did not help. Housekeeping did not remove the dirty cups from the room nor did they replace the toiletries.

Room Tip: Make sure you have extra for transportation to the hotel if you are staying on the Canada side. Do n...
