“Pleasantly surprised.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We stayed here in july. This hotel had everything. The rooms were nice, the staff was friendly and the pool and location was great! You have to pay $10 for parking which is expected in NF. This is not a five star however a nice hotel for families. Views of the falls are nice.

While we were situated on the 2nd floor, our view of the falls wasn't as lovely as it would have been on a higher floor. We asked to move to a higher floor the next day and the hotel was ready to accommodate us but we ended up just staying on the second floor. The hotel is definitely dated and could use an overall freshening up. The pool was fine, the hot tub was fine, the sauna...well, that was really small and a bit creepy looking. We lucked out with parking for the most part. I find most hotel linens to be suspect. The linens here were of no great surprise. The bed, however, was very comfortable.
When we checked in, the staff was wonderful and accommodating. Checking out, the gentleman who was there to answer our questions was brusque and not very pleasant. Thankfully, there was another lady there who could help us.
We had purchased a voucher through travelzoo and didn't plan on staying in our room for very long so it met our needs. Our stay included breakfast at Applebees, dinner at Remingtons, four wine tasting flights at different wineries and Seneca Casino credit. Overall, it was a wonderful package.

My husband and I enjoy a frequent weekend getaway in Niagara Falls/Niagara-On-The-Lake. We normally book a package at the Hilton, but we received a gift card for The Oakes so were somewhat forced to stray from our traditional getaway hotel. We were very disappointed with the quality of the hotel almost as soon as we arrived. The woman who checked us in had a terrible attitude. The room was really outdated. No hotels are using the bedding that The Oakes had in the rooms, which indicates they haven't changed the bedding since the 80's...gross! The carpet was old and worn out and they haven't updated their TV's to flat screens yet...It does look like they've put some work into the bathrooms somewhat recently, but could still use better lighting for those of us trying to apply makeup. The room had an interesting layout, but was somewhat a wasteful use of space. The gym was a joke...5 pieces of 20 year old cardio equipment? No thanks. All of these things added together just indicate the property doesn't invest any money in keeping up-to-date. Just an overall icky feeling in there.

The deal was not that great either. We could have paid $50 more and had an additional night at the Hilton with credits for their amazing restaurants. Not to mention that the entire hotel was awoken by the fire alarm going off twice between 3 & 4AM with no gesture or apology to the guests whose sleep was interrupted. Poor customer relations!

It offered a great view of the falls...but is not attached to the casino so you have to walk outside in the mist (not a huge issue since you're right next door but the mist is cold any other time of year but summer). ...The Hilton is attached to the casino :)

We ate at their property-owned restaurant as part of our package, Remingtons. Below-average food in a cheesy atmosphere with singing servers. Yikes.

Hilton, we miss you and can't wait to book our next weekend getaway there. If we receive another gift card for The Oakes we will be looking to get rid of it somehow rather than using it again.

Purchased a travel voucher through Travelzoo. Was excited to getaway from the kids for a weekend. Upon check in, had to park in unsecure parking around back, not many spaces there. The room was outdated, extremely dirty including stained carpet and comforter. Carpet was shredded in a couple of places and may be the original. Bathtub fawcet leaked and was incredibly annyoing when trying to sleep. HOtel smelled too!!!! Beds are old and saggy and not comfortable to sleep in. To top it off, FIREALARM at 3:20 am and had to vacate for 30 min into the misty rain of the falls.

However, the beauty of the falls was great. Too bad the Oakes really doesn't get credit for the natural beauty.

Don't stay here. Pay a bit more and stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

We again stayed at The Oakes Hotel for the second time after purchasing the romantic getaway which included accommodation, a bottle of bubblies,a rose, dinner and breakfast. There is a shuttle bus that takes you to and from the restaurant where dinner is served. We chose a Fallsview room and were not disappointed as we got a room on the 15 th floor. The view was amazing and well worth the few dollars upgrade fee. Our room was clean and although the hotel could use a bit more of a face lift it was still a good deal and the view of both the American and the Horshoe Falls was really great. The TV has about 20 channels jus in case one gets bored looking at the Falls.
We found the receptionist, I believe it was Ashley, really people friendly contrary what some reviewers had reported about their check in experiences. The indoor pool was clean. We felt that parking should be incuded in the package price; however in November there are more reasonble parking opportunities a few blocks away. The Casino is within walkng distance.

Room Tip: Request a Fallsview Room above the 9th floor. Actuall the higher the better view down into the rive...

We bought a "Jaunt" voucher and thought this was going to be a great stay in Niagara Falls. Boy were we disappointed. When we first walked into the hotel, the woman who checked us in was not friendly at all, no smile, it was as if she was bored. That should have been a clue. The room we had was on the sixth floor and was very dated. The beds looked lumpy, like they were very old, which they were. The room was not as clean as it should've been. Hand prints all over the doors, the inside of the ice bucket lid had three spots of black mold, gross. When I pulled back the bedspread there was a long black hair on the pillow. The bathroom sink had no less than four jagged cracks in it that, I guess, had been repaired. Using the shower had a learning curve..if the water was too cold and you turned the hot on to quick the pipes would rattle and bang LOUDLY, in fact we could hear various other people showering with the same problems. The hotel itself is very dated. We went to the 14th floor "observation lounge" and it was only a few chairs in a hallway facing the window. No store, no bar, no restaurant, no frills what-so-ever. For this I could have stayed at any number of other hotels in the area for a much better price, we expected much more. Never again.

Room Tip: Save yourself from disappointment, choose a different hotel.

Oakes hotel, Niagara Falls Ontario November 13/14

We got a loyalty deal so we could not resist the opportunity to check out this particular hotel. We even upgraded to a Jacuzzi suite on the 15th floor. The lobby really has nothing welcoming in it.

The hotel is older, you can tell this by the high level of noise you can hear in your room, both from other rooms and the street. We could hear every truck backing up, engines revving and other street noise. Better yet complete conversations of our direct neighbours in the hotel and by the way they had a great time last night if anyone is interested.

The rooms are nicely furnished, but oddly set up, there is wrap around windows with a fabulous view and they put the tv/dresser right in the middle of it. The suite has only one place to hang your clothing and it is as you walk in, rather than in the bedroom part.

Unfortunately the room we were in also overlooked the Embassy Suites so you have all the light from that hotel coming into the room, and the curtains no matter how you play with them do not fully close.

We also found the heating/air-conditioning unit to be very noisy when it comes on.

The bathroom with Jacuzzi tub (heart shaped) is also oddly set up, it is large and with a lot of space and separate shower, so why could they not provide an easier way to get in? The safest way is via a grab bar that is right next to the toilet but even then you have to stretch in some rather unladylike ways to get in safely.

With the tub being an odd shape it also makes it hard to get in and out, I know these shapes are a novelty but seriously, even one person can't fit properly in a heart shape never mind two....give me a nice deep oval or rectangle any day.

We did however get a great deal so can't complain about that. As usual combined with free parking at the casino and a brunch deal there we paid for nothing more than our room and tips. Also nice to see the hotels in Niagara offering incentives to the Canadian casinos rather than the US now.

Oh one other odd thing where they elevators are located (by they way they are glass elevators so you get view of the city, in the main lobby the pool is also located there, all you can smell when coming in and out of the elevators is the chlorine.

Oh and they do have free wifi.

Room Tip: Not sure there would be a less noisy room unless there are ones that have newer windows. I would sta...
