I'm glad to see many other people have posted similar stories here and on other sites. I called to make an appointment and ask how much, and the woman said a relaxing massage was $90 an hour and a deep tissue would be $15 extra. I asked what the difference was and she said relaxing was medium pressue, deep tissue was harder pressure for $15 extra.
Now, this struck me as really odd but I'm from the States so I didn't know if this was the norm. I mean sure its not uncommon to have a different price for hot stone, deep tissue, etc...but extra for firmer pressure? That was a new one for me. Anyway, I don't really like people digging in my back anyway, so I said the relaxing massage would be fine and she says she'll show me when I come down.
So I get there and she shows me on my arm and I'm like...uh ya medium pressure is fine. So we go to the room and she asks me again and I say no I'm sure, and she makes a remark that I'm going to miss her "good" massage. So what, i'm not going to get a good massage? I was really turned off by that comment...but okay i lay down. She comes back and says she accidentally double booked (while I'm on the table mind you) and would I mind coming back in a few hours. I got up and said no sorry I'm not sure I could but that's okay (I was practically a walk in after all) but she immiedately said no no no you stay. So she comes back and, get a load of this, about 5 minutes into the massage she does some harder pressure and is saying things like..."this is what the deep tissue is" and "oh you need the deep tissue" and then "I do the deep tissue for you, okay?" So now I'm really annoyed and I rather assertively said no and she continues on. But it gets worse.
About half way through, she asks if it would be okay if we just do 45 minutes, so she can keep her waiting customer and please everyone. Now I am the opposite of relaxed- this is in the middle of my massage. So I'm like...uh...okay I guess. Then she proceeds to do the firmer pressue and says something like she's just too use to doing it that way so she'll just do it for me for free. She reiterated multiple times throughout the session that she was doing me a favor by giving me "the good massage." The way she was speaking to me also made me feel really cheap...and frankly the $15 isn't a big deal to me at all (I'm spending $90 on an hour afterall) it was more that i felt like she was trying to nickel and dime me. Then I checked out and its $75 for 45 minutes, which I then realized is more per minute than $90 for an hour which makes me wonder if she was trying to make up the extra $15 I wouldn't pay her. So I only gave her a $5 tip and I usually tip a lot more...but in hindsight I shouldn't have tipped anything really. I see on the spa's website it says $90 an hour for any of the massages listed, including deep tissue, and doesnt say anything about the extra $15.
It was just really ridiculous...I've never had that experience at a spa before. The worst part of it was, she was legitmately good at giving massages. I could see how some people might go to her on a regular basis- but for me the attitude and service completely ruined the whole experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
