“Lunch at the Budapes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

The place is very dated in an old Hungarian way but is a pleasant surprise when you get to the food. My husband ordered the chicken paprikash and I had the veal paprikash and both had the Hungarian goulash soup. When we tasted the soup we found it lacking in paprika flavour and some of the meat was a bit tough. But when we got our individual paprikash dishes we were amazed at the difference from the soup. The meats were very tender, with a tasty paprikash sauce along with the spaetzle which was amazing. We would not hesitate to go again!

“Authentic food and experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Our evening at the Budapest reminded us of our evenings in a cafe across from the Opera House in Budapest during our trip there a few years ago. The decor is egregiously ornate, and generously leavened with pictures of the owner and her family. Despite her 80-some years, she still greets customers at the door, and checks during the meal to see if they are happy. We had the chicken paprikash and the goulash, and they both reminded us of "homestyle" dinners in Budapest, rich but mildly seasoned. By saving some of our dinner to take home, we were able to enjoy desserts: a Hungarian pastry and a palascinta (crepe) filled with ice cream. There are places in town where you can experience dining that is more innovative, but if you want a true Budapest experience, from the ambiance to the dessert, this London institution is the place.

“Budapest is not just a restaurant...it's an experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

While attending a conference in London recently, my colleagues suggested dinner at the Budapest Restaurant and I'm so grateful we went. The food was simply amazing...so flavourful and from what I understand, it was really authentic. I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The service was also commendable - folks went out of their way to ensure we had a positive experience from the moment we stepped inside. As for the atmosphere, what can I say...from the heavy red drapes and decorative plates and artifacts hanging on the walls, to the live Hungarian music and staff with their Hungarian accents, we were immersed in a wonderful cultural experience. It was easy to forget we were still in London, Ontario. I will definitely go back next time I visit and encourage you to give it a try...you won't be disappointed.

Definitely worth a visit if you're in london for a few days, great Hungarian food, big portions and the owner is quite a character! Excellent entertainment from a man on the keyboard as well.
