Attended Joe Kool's for a small work event. When asking to reserve a table for 10 our secretary was told that, 'It's raining so there shouldn't be many people here." We went early anyway and had no trouble finding a seat, but within a few minutes people were lined up and the place quickly became full. I do know that they take reservations, because while our large party waited at the front desk for our table to be prepared (could have been done ahead of time with a reservation) people leapfrogged the line to go to their reserved tables.
The server did a reasonable job of getting our orders and drinks quickly. Our orders were taken promptly. All of the orders were correct, but the food was not very good. I ordered the veggie quesidilla, something that is difficult to do poorly, but lo and behold it was terrible. The quartered tortilla was soggy and piled on top of one another, so trying to separate each peice just resulted in tearing off the wrap from the filling. The filling was not seasoned in any meaning ful way, the vegetables weren't prepped properly and the cheese, being a mixture or cream cheese and mozzarella, congealed under the lamp before making it to the table.
Joe Kool's is coasting off it's reputation with the older bar crowd. The generation of folks growing up with Tripadvisor and Yelp to help them choose a restaurant will never patronize a place with this sort of service and cuisine. The owners should refocus on the original restaurant in the chain and bring it up to the same standard as others in the Kool empire.
