Tamarine stands out from what is a fairly bland and staid collection of chains and fairly ordinary restaurants in London, Ontario.
Tamarine has an extensive menu of traditional Vietnamese dishes, served with a modern flair and twist. The menu is inspired by family recipes and the pride and care with which dishes are made is evident. Yes, some dishes are spicy and have a bit of kick, but even tender palettes will find much to enjoy on the menu. The coconut curry chicken is a favorite; a velvety, sumptuous treat. And you must try the spring rolls - vegetarian, chicken, pork - it won't matter, all are equally tasty especially as you wrap them in lettuce and mint.
The decor is modern and the place is fresh and impeccably clean. It is a relaxing environment; a very pleasant place to enjoy a meal.
The best part of Tamarine might be the service as you are treated like family. The owner is often present in the front room, greeting people and ensuring they are enjoying themselves. Dishes come quickly and when presented, servers take time to explain what you have and how to eat it (is the sauce for dipping, is it even a sauce?).
Tamarine is open for lunch and dinner, six days a week (closed Sundays). It's on Dundas Street, right in the heart of the downtown core. There is limited parking on the street but plenty of parking within an one or two block radius.
Tamarine is a real gem - great food, great atmosphere and superb service. It's a place for couples, families and business people. It can do romantic evenings as well as it can serve a power lunch.
