“The best choice for good cheap pizza fast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2010

When it comes to pizza, there's great, good, and bad. Every pizza shop claims they have the best pizza, but truly great pizza is more expensive than what pizza buyers are willing to pay. Pizza is about good value 90% of the time, so the best pizza is the one that tastes best for the money. You can find better pizza in Kingston than Godfatha's, but not for less than 50% more.

And then there's bad pizza. Any idiot can take a pre-formed shell, over-the-counter sauce and toppings, and a restaurant-quality cheese and make good pizza. It literally takes a laboratory to make bad pizza. Big chains over-engineer their ingredients so their pizza won't burn when an underpaid brat leaves it in the oven 5 minutes too long, and so it's the same in Halifax and in Vancouver. It tastes good, just not quite like good pizza should.

It's the small chains that always offer the best quality for the buck. They have the advantage of enough buying power to get supplies for less, many have a centralized warehouse and prep facility so they can have smaller shops, and sell the same product for less. There's no advantage to having a lab, so they use good quality ingredients instead of paying franchise royalties.

Godfatha's is an exceptionally well-run business that's succeeded by providing good simple pizza for less, with a pleasant staff and consistently fast service. I know that sounds like I work there, fact is that I worked everywhere else, but ate there. If I couldn't make great pizza on my own, I still would!
