“Do Not Get Married Here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2010

This review is vey late, so my apologies. We got married there in September 2006. I'm only doing it now because we are coming up on our 4 year anniversary and are looking for a place to spend it, and saw these other reviews. We will NEVER return to BB Inn.

Like the other reviews have mentioned, BB Inn management is EXTREMELY rude. We got married at BB, and from beginning to end it was a complete headache. We were not listened to, pricing was wrong (overcharged and had to bring out our file with previous written agreements with them to have it changed), it was argument after arguement. We could not get a hold of the wedding planner (which we were forced to get and pay for in order to have the wedding there). The water deck where we got married was decorated (at our expense) and as soon as the wedding was over, while we were with the photographer taking pictures, staff were out there taking down the decorations.

The food was edible at best, and we were told we would have the dining room to ourselves (paid for) and as soon as dessert was over, while we were doing speeches, we were told we had to clear the room for other guests. We did not hire a DJ (at the request of the Inn), but opted to burn our own CD for our first dance, Father/Daughter Dance and Grandfather dance. At no time was the music loud. We had a wedding of 34 people including us. We were told 3 times to turn the music down. Unacceptable. It was 3 songs, and slow ones at that.

We rented one of the cottages to spend the night, and it was not clean. The carpet looked like it had not been vacuumed in a few days, the jacuzzi was not dirty per say, but was older and dingy looking, with a ring around it. My husband actually refused to get in it. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. We were very glad that we were only there for the one night.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The only part of the entire experience, wedding, dining, etc was waking up in the morning and going out to the dock to sit and enjoy the view.

For the last 4 years we (along with our wedding attendees and parents) have been telling our friends and co workers not to waste their money and don't even consider having their weddings or romantic getaways there. Unfortunately we cannot go back in time and change our wedding venue, but can warn others to steer clear. Don't be fooled by the beauitful property.

“Substandard and overpriced, with rudeness to top it off”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2009

I'll go straight to the point. We had two rooms, one had a very cramped bathroom with a shower enclosure, the other had a spacious bathroom, which was not attached but accross the hallway ... major privacy issue! There was no shampoo or hairdryer, just bars of dial soap in the bathrooms. The linens were faded and damaged. One bed had a headboard that was falling apart exposing sharp nails. The mattresses were slouching like hammocks. Neither the wireless internet, nor the tv worked.

We were there for two nights, not only the linen stayed the same, but even the towels. The second morning, the damp towels from the previous day were stinking. Housekeeping forgot to take out trash. The food was overpriced and bland. Perhaps the burger was alright, but nothing else. The breakfast was mediocre at the very best.

The only plus was the view overlooking the river. The dock and the grounds were nice ... although there were cobwebs all over the place!

We were on vacation and our two year old was up later than usual ... I don't think I need to explain this to anyone ... maintaining strict bedtime is not a priority, or even a possibility while people are on vacation. The Innkeeper was apparently sleeping right underneath us and she claimed she could not sleep just because we were up. WIth all sincerity, we really were just up and talking ... there was no loud dancing or drinking! At midnight, no later, we literally got yelled at by the Innkeeper because she could not sleep. The next morning, I personally explained to her why it is hard to maintain children's bedtimes while traveling and apologized ... but she exploited my politeness as an opportunity to be even ruder. Well, she got our money so it didn't matter anymore how we felt. I could not sleep for hours the night before because I felt so humilated being yelled at by her! We never intended to disturb anybody and we had actually locked ourselves(two couples with two children, 2 and 8) into one room not to disturb other boarders. But I guess we should have realized that the creaky wooden floors and flimsy walls allow even the slightest noises to escape. I still feel bad if I disturbed any of the other boarders, but the Innkeepers tone was totally unacceptable.

All the other boarders were elderly and overweight ... I know this sounds very mean, but I guess that's the kind of clientelle who are suited for this place. We did not feel welcome at all! And all of this came with a price tag of almost 800 dollars for two rooms, two nights. There was a local lodging tax of $25 on top of everything, which I guess applies to the Island in general. I did not come home relaxed, but quite upset. Overall, a regrettable experience.

“Lack of attention to details is unfortunate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2007

Wolfe Island is a nice place to visit and the location is quiet and charming. We were somewhat disappointed with our stay at the Brown's Bay Inn. The property is situated by the water and offers a great view. However, we found that attention to detail was lacking. We rented one of the cottages and, while it was relatively clean, we discovered that the bathtub (jaccuzzi) had been overlooked. Standard items such as a telephone, a hair dryer and small bottles of shampoo were not automatically provided. The website advertised a good breakfast, we found it to be only adequate. We believe that paying $185 cdn per night is too high for the overall quality of service we received.

We are a relatively young, small and growing seasonal business, our staff consists of many young people who have never before been a part of the workforce. We take pride in looking after our customers well and strive to ensure that everyone's stay here is a wonderful experience. We are always pleased to receive good reviews and very disappointed when we do not, however the outcome of these less than satifactory reviews is that we address the concerns of our guests to ensure a higher level of service. As a result of the earlier reviews quality checks are done on each room once housekeeping has finished. Quality soaps and shampoos have replaced the past product we used. Hairdryers are in all of the rooms, we have wireless satelite internet access in all of the rooms and we are working on the television situation. Thank you to all of you who have chosen to stay at Brown's Bay Inn. For those of you who left less than satisfied we do hope that you join us again for were it not for your comments we may have continued to miss some of the details.
Kindly,
Brown's Bay Inn Management Team

“Location is great - need work in the details”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2007

The location of this inn is wonderful. It's on Wolfe Island by the water. The view is spectacular. Don't get the spa services. We tried to book ahead of time and have the staff there at 3 p.m. They showed up at 6:30 p.m. and there were 5 of us and 2 of them. Needless to say, we didn't get everything we wanted since we hadn't had supper and it was 9 p.m. The estheticians were great but should have been there much earlier. The restaurant is very good but very pricy. ($21.99 for a breast of chicken) The chalet itself was ok. We had to ask to bring the television in and we could only get 2 stations. Needs a little polishing.
