“Reasonable Place to Stay -- Nice Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2007

The hotel has been a fixture in Kingston for years.

They have refurbished and expanded over the years and the rooms are large, reasonably clean and functional.

The lobby/restaurant area is first class -- very nice.

The restaurant was excellent -- a multi-item buffet for under $20. Several food and desert items to choose from, all professionally prepared. Nice decor. Great value.

The location is the one negative. Away from downtown and really not much to look at from any room. Kind of a drab area of town -- not a short walk to either the university/waterfront area or downtown.

Ample above ground free parking.

Room was reasonably priced -- a bit less expensive than some of the alternatives.

Large indoor pool and waterslide.

All in all a pretty good experience with the food tipping the balance to 'above average'.

  • Liked — Great food. Reasonable room rate.
  • Disliked — Probably too far to walk to campus or waterfront. Nothing to look at from your room window.

We stayed 2 nights in the Ambassador, mostly because of the indoor waterslides resort.

The hotel was reaaly nice, the rooms were as we expected, nothing luxurious but really nice. Staff was helpfull athough not that friendly.

The complexe is big and you better be ready to walk a lot if you want to enjoy the infrastructures!!!

The water complex is nice. Great slide (just one), 1 overcrowded swimming pool and 2 hot tubs overcrowded. You absolutely must love/have children to go there as they are eveywhere. We've got 2 and they adored there stay.

The restaurant is EXTREMELY expensive and the all you can eat buffet includes, like, 3 choices of meals, which is quite limited!!! I wouldn't recommand eating there at all, since you've got plenty of restaurants around (Dennis, Red Lobster...) as well as tons downtown.

By the way, the city is beautiful!!!!

A friend and I (with our 4 kids aged 8-11) have spent 1 night here every summer for the last few years - while the hotel is pretty average in my opinion, the children won't even consider staying anywhere else. They really enjoy the water park and look forward to it every year. I am not sure how this hotel would be for business people/conferences - always seems to be pretty heavy on the families - but our kids have fun and we normally have a very pleasant evening with them there for a very reasonable price ($135 CDN a few weeks ago). The standard traditional rooms are nothing special at all, but have accomodated our families fine. This hotel isn't right downtown near the nice Kingston stuff (waterfront, parks, etc.) -- although it is an reasonably short drive down Princess street to get there. Easy to find from the main 401 highway. Have never eaten in the hotel as there is a pancake/breakfast buffet place right across the street (Golden Griddle) that is child-appropriate for a decent price for breakfast.

  • Liked — Kids enjoy the waterpark
  • Disliked — Wish was closer to waterfront area

I stayed at the Ambassador for 3 nights while attending a conference at the hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful the entire time we were at the hotel. As the conference was in the hotel, it was convenient for my needs.

The room itself was a bit dated style-wise. The bedding looked to be new and the room was clean. Everything I used in the room was in good working order.

The hotel is near the train station and within walking distance (I did it just to see), however for about half of the walk there are no sidewalks. If you're looking for a place close to downtown or somewhere you can just take a walk around town for a restaurant shopping, this is not it. It is a relatively short drive or cab ride from the downtown area.

  • Liked — Helpfulness of hotel staff
  • Disliked — Location was not very convenient for the downtown area or other amenities
  • Tips/Secrets — Rent a car or be prepared to take a taxi or bus

We stayed one night, Saturday Aug 26th. Room had a funny smell to it, and the rooms are not too sound proof, so we heard every conversation of the early birds waking up at 6 am. I was staying there with my wife and 2 kids and got to bed late due to driving late. Good hotel to stay at if your a bunch a guys for a bachelor party, its like a upper 2 star hotel. Stay at the fireside down the road instead, much cleaner, and better constucted.

My family and I stayed here here over the weekend for the poker run. Because there was no room available anywhere my husband decided to get a room at this resort that was a lot more expensive that what we usually paid for ( $247.00) We got a king size bed with jacuzzi. The room was clean and big, but I would expect if you pay that much you'd get a small suite. The sink was very loud when you ran water, and the room was beside the patio to outside so there was lots of noise and traffic.
The waterpark was fun, my daughter and I had a great time, and the jacuzzis were great. The buffet breakfast was good too, and it was reasonable.
All in all, considering that this resort is nowhere near downtown Kingston, I think the reason why this resort is more expensive is because of the water park, by the way, that the public has access to at certain hours.
I'd stay here again, but get a smaller room, as all the rooms have almost the same amenities we did except the jacuzzi and slippers, for much less than we paid for.

The Ambassador is an above average hotel. Ugly square building and the so called 'water park' is extremely small, but I'm sure it packs plenty of fun for kids.

Rooms are a good size and kept clean. Air conditioning units are noisey.

The thing I liked best about this hotel was the staff, they were superb and very helpful, especially the bar staff who were taught to pour a pint the British way ;)
