“Always a pleasure.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

It has always been an exceptional pleasure to enter the doors of the McMaster Museum of Art. The curators at the front desk have a smile every time, the art is of a superb caliber (having been rated one of the best galleries in Canada), and the bi-monthly wine and cheese events make my life more complete. Thank you for years of cultural and intellectual pleasure...

“Artwork hidden away”

Who would think that McMaster University would contain such a fabulous display of art! Best plan for a couple of hours to visit.

“Art Gallery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

This art gallery is on the campus of McMaster University and is on the central courtyard on the north side. Parking is expensive during school hours, so a Saturday visit works. The space itself had the usual bright ambience and friendly reception.

On display was an visiting exhibition by Takao Tanabe a landscape artist who oscillates between realism and abstract form. His works have varied throughout his career and his oeuvres changed in styles including Japanese Sumi, and other works described as lyrical, diminutive, and oblique.

Another visiting display was called Conspiracies of Illusion. I enjoyed the video called Analog by Nestor Kruger, which was like an abstract train movie; you have to see it to appreciate it.

I have visited this art gallery before and enjoyed their permanent collection that includes a Rembrandt, Monet, and a Van Gogh. It takes a hour or so and one could spend more time depending on interest.

“Great gallery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

This is a nice sized art gallery. I'd recommend visiting it if you're on McMaster campus for another reason and have some time. Students/seniors are free and a $2 donation is recommended otherwise.
