“Something New A-Cooking at Rapscallion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

Rapscallion owners Matt and Erin Kershaw are doing something different in the neighbourhood.
Matt plays with meat-basically doing incredible things like stuffing chicken wings with meatballs, (more meat), making desserts like white chocolate bacon bread pudding, and serving cheeky dishes like "tongue and cheek" (braised beef tongue and beef cheek-tastes better than it sounds). Ambitious for Hamilton, the pricing is extremely off-kitler with the neighbourhood, and more entry-level ($6-$10) dishes, and a business model that is not only open 3 days a week would be appreciated.

“Pricey but Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Rapscallion is a definitely a rogue eatery. The unique chalkboard menu offerings were fabulous. They were presented beautifully. The portions were small but that is to be expected in a tapas setting. There were 5 of us dining and we racked up the bill with expensive and extremely delicious bottles of wine. The five of us sampled together about 10-12 menu items and then shared 2 dessert choices.Reservations are a must as this establishment is tiny and has limited operating days/hours.Our favourites were the pulled pork tacos, the brie grilled cheese, the froi gras, the local salad and the cheese and meat sampler. Great service and fantastic food on the corner of Young and John! Who knew this old hotdog stand could reveal such a treasure?

“Good Food Poor Value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Just dined at this restaurant. Nice ambiance but the total ripoff vibe was quite difficult to take.
Wine list is very expensive - house wine is $49.00. Pricy for the quality. Portions are miniscule.
It is fine to do a tapas type menu - in fact a great idea - but be serious $13 for a salad of literally 5 pea size pieces of butternut squash and goat cheese is inexcusable. Portions are fine if in the $5.00 to $8.00 dollar range. Charging $22 for a tiny piece of beef and fois gras was silly. Hope they are able to make adjustments to either portions or pricing.

“Most exciting restaurant in Hamilton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

I loved my visit here! Was just floored to find out a restaurant like this can thrive in Hamilton.

Perfect foie gras torchon! Non greasy Pork belly tacos! Deboned (!) chicken wings! Immaculate risotto! I know this is too many exclamation marks, but I was so happy to find my new favorite restaurant here...in Hamilton.

The space is funky and fun; done on a budget but done well.

Service was great. You could tell the servers used to work in high-end fine dining but are much happier to let their hair down here. They were fun, but gave great table maintenance.

Can't wait to come back!
