Romero's Restaurant is tucked into a small plaza in an industrial area on Elmira Road in Guelph. Drive by quickly and you will miss it. We have been eating there for many years and have always found the staff to be friendly, fast and efficient. One one occasion Sammy organized and catered an outstanding retirement dinner there for a colleague and his many friends.
The menu contains a wide selection of pastas, seafood, salads, veal dishes and steaks. We have sampled many but really enjoy the calamari which are cooked like tempura and are delicately delicious. Linguini Romero consists of linguini swimming in a succulent white sauce containing shrimp, scallops, red peppers and onions cooked to perfection. Their Fusilli with Cajun sauce is perfectly seasoned and includes shrimp, mussels and scallops. We have sampled many of their other creations and have never been disappointed
There is a small list of primarily Italian wines by the bottle, but the house red and white for $6.95 for a 6 oz. glass provide excellent value and quality. Romero's excels in cuisine and provides a somewhat upscale atmosphere in a city known for its Italian origins and increasingly sophisticated restaurant scene.
I can only assume that the writers of the recent negative reviews did not appreciate the warm and pleasant atmosphere and excellent food for a very reasonable price at this hidden gem, or they may not have dined in many outstanding restaurants around the world as has the writer.
