“Good hotel, overrated food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

My wife and I recently stayed overnight at Langdon Hall for my birthday. We had the meal package. The room was pleasant with a log burning fireplace and an outdoor patio. We could only enjoy the patio for a short period because of the weather but on a sunny day it would be very enjoyable. The bathroom was nicely equipped and clean. So, no problems with the accommodation. The dining experience was, however, hugely disappointing. For the appetizer I had the Tuna and my wife had the Lobster Creme Fraiche - both were bland and tasteless. For the Entrees my wife had the Venison which was nicely cooked but there was little else on the plate- just one sprout and two small pieces of squash, so basically just two slabs of meat. I had the lamb loin which was tender and well cooked but it was about 50% fat - so about 2 ounces of edible meat. For desert. I had the Dobos - chocolate cake type desert which was extremely rich but my wife had the chestnut and parsnip parfait which had the appearance of a pink unappetizing blob on the plate which was left as inedible. The staff did offer to replace it but by then the damage was done. Other aspects which did not rise to our expectations were that there was only one selection of bread and the Sommelier did such an inadequate job of decanting the wine that I had to ask for a replacement glass after I had gingerly finished the first. Finally, the breakfast in the package was also not up to expectations.

We came here to celebrate our anniversary and it was everything we hoped it would be. The main house building is a gorgeous period stately mansion, which helped you feel like you were really leaving the city behind, and the room (we stayed in the main house) was cozy and comfortable. When we arrived, there was a tile with chocolate brownies and a card wishing us a Happy Anniversary in the room. The food at dinner was delicious, and they put "Happy anniversary" on our dessert plates, which was a nice touch. Breakfast had a great selection of different things, and it was all very good. Then we had a massage in the spa, which was excellent as well. It was a perfect romantic getaway, and we look forward to going back in the summer, when we can use their outdoor pool and tennis courts!

On our way to Stratford, we really enjoyed or stay a couple nights at this charming country hotel. Wonderful staff took care of us. The gardens were lovely to stroll through. A relaxing break from Toronto. Recommend their spa, too.

We stayed at Langdon Hall for a spa getaway weekend and had a perfect weekend. The property itself is historic, well-situated and grand. The property has everything you could want during a weekend stay - rooms to sit around in, a billiards room, a spa, an outdoor heated pool, a garden, etc. From the minute we walked through the front doors, we were treated with respect and friendliness. Staff were accommodating, helpful and made us feel very welcome. Our room was absolutely gorgeous - beautifully decorated, spacious and well-equipped. The bathroom in particular was one of the nicest hotel room bathrooms that I've seen. We also loved all of the free activities Langdon Hall provides to its guests - we took part in a tour of the gardens, a wine tasting and a cooking demonstration. The spa itself was nice and all of the staff there were very friendly and helpful. Our complimentary breakfast was amazing - there was so much choice, and everything was of high quality. As for the dinner included in our package, I have to say that it was one of the best meals that I've ever had in Canada (and I've been to a lot of great restaurants). There's a reason the restaurant here is so highly acclaimed. The food we had here was not what you would expect from a hotel-restaurant outside of a major city - every dish was innovative and "cutting edge". We are definitely planning on coming back in the near future.

Langdon Hall is a beautiful, stately old home transformed into a lovely inn. Our room was spacious and well-appointed. The in-room fireplace was lovely and since the winter has been so long, a nice touch. The food at breakfast and dinner was amazing. We enjoyed the complimentary wine tasting and cooking demonstration. They were both very well done. We also took advantage of the Spa services which were excellent. Cost- wise, the Inn is not for the faint of heart. We were in the Cloisters which were very nice. Our only complaint is that our room was between two others, both of whom had dogs. The dogs barked and whined from mid-afternoon into the late evening hours. We had to call the front desk twice to complain. For the cost, this should NEVER happen. When we complained, we were told there were no other rooms available and they would mark our record so that the next time we return (?) we won't be placed near guests with pets.

Room Tip: Make sure you specify a room away from guests with dogs.

We've stayed in Langdon Hall several times, and always enjoy it. A handsome and comfortable building in the country. Good and welcoming service. A sense of well-being. Martini in the bar listening to the pianist... The one doubt is the dining experience. It's a beautiful dining room. The service could be a little more enthusiastic but it is certainly acceptable. Food presentation is excellent. But the food itself slides towards the mediocre. Some work to be done there...

Room Tip: Room 6 is good but expensive.

My husband surprised me with an overnight trip to Langdon Hall for my birthday and I wasnt disappointed! What a beautiful getaway with an abundance of charm. We stayed in one of the attic suites and I was seriously speechless when we entered. The food was spectacular, with fresh ingrediants from the gardens found on site. The entire compound is just stunning! I visited the spa and had a facial and massage. The staff was great:) No complaints at all.
