“Mixed Feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

The positives was that Steven and LIn were very nice and willing to help with directions and things to do. The pool and hot tub were also really nice. They also made breakfast at a time that was convenient for the guest rather then giving a time.

The big negative for us was that the bedroom doors do not lock. I felt extremely uncomfortable leaving my cash in an unlocked room with other guests in the B & B. I think it would only be proper letting someone know this ahead of time. Their was not safe instead or some other alternative to security. The other con is I never quite felt like it was a place I could comfortable in. The second we arrived we were given a list of things not to do. Such as Chlorinated water getting on the rug, no glass by the pool, take your shoes off when you enter.... and so forth.

We are really disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us here at Creekside. We work very hard to make our guests feel welcome, and we can only apologize if we did not make you feel that way.

I do remember your concern regarding your bedroom door having no lock and, as we take all our reviews to heart, we have decided to place individual locks on all our bedroom doors. We are sorry that you did not feel safe here, but please note that Canada is one of the safest countries in the world, and the Burlington/Halton region has the lowest crime rate in the country.

We only have a couple of "requests " for our guests. Removing your shoes as you enter our home is one of them, and is customary in Canada. We do ask our guests to respect our customs while staying with us. It is probably different to what you have been used to, but this is a residential home as opposed to a hotel or guest house.

Broken glass in the pool or on the pool deck is a health and safety concern. It is almost impossible to see glass once it has fallen in the pool (as we have found out to our detriment). It could not only cause harm to the pool liner, but could also cause bathers to sustain nasty cuts to the feet. I don't think you will find many pool owners around who do permit glass by their pools.

Drying off before you go back inside the house is also a health and safety concern. Wet slippery tiles in the hallway can cause accidents, and we do not want our guests to fall and hurt themselves. As you mentioned the chlorine will damage the carpets, as it is a bleach. We'd like to be able to keep our home nice for future guests as well as yourselves.

You will see from all our previous reviews that the majority of our guests feel like they have come home when they visit us. We are very relaxed with our guests, and have no "rules" just a couple of requests. We like to say that you arrive as guests, but leave as friends.

I'm just sorry that your first stay at a B&B was not a positive one for you.

Thank you for your review....we appreciate your input.

Lin and Steve

We are a family of four, two adults and two teenage boys and we stayed in the guest suite for one week during August 2013. The accommodation suited us perfectly, 2 bedrooms, our own lounge area and small kitchen where we could prepare simple meals. The suite is in the basement and has direct access to the pool area where you also have use of a BBQ and outside bar. Creekside has fast guest wi-fi, a point particularly appreciated by our two sons.

Lin and Steve could not have been more helpful or welcoming and were always ready to share local knowledge about visiting local spots such as Niagara, Toronto etc. The breakfasts are great and you can choose from full English and/or cereal, fruit, pancakes, toast or just about anything. The house is well air conditioned which is appreciated on a hot day.

The only thing to be aware of us that the guest suite is in the basement and there is potential to be disturbed by the people on the floor above. This wasn't really a problem for us except for the odd occasion when a guest got up early while we were looking to lie-in.

Overall though 5 stars and highly recommended.

Long weekend stay with Steve and Lin in The Roseland Suite. Travelled 2 adults, 2 kids so a larger suite with 2 bedrooms would better accommodate us.

Steve and Lin are welcoming and lovely couple. Served English-style breakfast with traditional bacon and eggs; and offered fruits, cereal. Plenty of conversation for travellers at the family dining room.

Negative: Had I known it was a basement suite, would have opted for bedrooms upstairs which most likely would have made a difference in our quality of stay. The downside: Lower Level — lower ceilings. My husband is 6' tall. Bedrooms very small and too cluttered with furniture.

PLUS: The Roseland Suite is spacious; nice sized bathroom; clean; walk-out sliding doors to pool.

Great-sized pool; plenty of deck chairs and space for a few families. Hot tub also nice addition.

Room Tip: Roseland Suite is lower Level — not wheelchair accessible. Low Ceilings. Smaller bedrooms.

Thank you for your positive feedback in this review...we really appreciate your kind words about us and our home.
However we would like to address your negative comments, just in case there is any confusion about the nature of accommodation in our Roseland Suite.
Our home is built into a hill, meaning that our basement is above ground at the back of the house. The suite is all at ground level, with full windows in both bedrooms, and patio doors from the living room out to the pool deck. The only part of our basement that is subterranean is our rec. room, which is not part of the Roseland suite.
The larger bedroom is 16 foot x 12 foot, which we would not agree could be described as "very small". It has two beds, a dresser, a chest of drawers, and night tables. The wardrobe is built in. The smaller bedroom is 13 foot x 10 foot, and has one bed, a chest of drawers, night tables and a free standing wardrobe. You can see pictures of both rooms on this website
Most of our guests staying in our suite are usually with us for longer than a weekend; and most often come from further afield. We do therefore need (and would be expected to) provide furniture with space to store clothes and other possessions.
The ceilings in the suite are lower than the standard eight foot ceilings in the upper levels of the house. The suite ceilings are 7 foot 2 inches high for the most part, with one small section in the second bedroom where it is six foot 3 inches. Again you can see pictures of all rooms on this website (including ceiling height).
Thank you again for your feedback. It does help us to provide quality accommodations for our guests.
Lin and Steve.

Everything that has been written about Creekside recently is spot on. BUT be aware this is not a good B&B, it is a GREAT B&B. Lin and Steve go the extra mile all the time. A big thank you to them for making our two week stay so good.
Chris & Jacqui.

My partner - Chris - and I stayed at Creekside with our 1 year old son, this was our 1st time visiting the area and Lin & Steve couldn't have been more helpful. Not only was their B&B beautiful, but they made us feel like friends of the family. They were warm, welcoming and sincere. Every morning a breakfast was made for us catering to our individual needs. A high chair and cutlery was even provided for our son. Despite our son struggling with jet-lag, we were never made to feel uncomfortable or a hindrance, instead they offered advice on how to help him cope. Even though we had 101 questions for them, they were happy to help, they provided us with plenty of ideas of places to visit. Our plan in the long term is to emigrate - Lin and Steve provided us with the name of an estate agent and recommended areas worth viewing houses, things to look out for and information on schools.

I cannot recommend this place enough and I am almost certain that we will be visiting again soon, if not for the beautiful area, but to also have a good catch up with fabulous hosts. 5*!!

Room Tip: If you are travelling with a family, i'd recommend paying that bit extra for the suite. Our son...

My wife, daughter & I stayed with Steve & Lin on two occasions, the first was when we came to Ontario on a fact-finding mission for our potential emigration from Scotland. The hospitality and advice that we received from Steve & Lin was instrumental in our decision to move to Burlington and we had no hesitation in booking their suite for 3 weeks for our second visit when we eventually emigrated. Since first meeting them in 2009 they, along with their family and friends, have become good friends. They have a lovely home with great facilities in a great location in Burlington. It is a perfect base for business people and tourists alike. Steve & Lin are endlessly resourceful and can't do enough for you. They are so enthusiastic about Burlington in particular and Ontario in general and are great ambassadors for the city, province and country alike. I would definitely recommend Creekside Bed & Breakfast to anyone.

This was the second time we had stayed at Creekside and was just as good as the first. Our hosts Lin and Steve made us most welcome. We even turned up a day early due to our bad organisation and they managed to fit us in without a problem. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always ready to help with anything. Lovely rooms (we have stayed in 3 different ones now), excellent breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere chatting to others from all over the world and even some that just lived up the road in the UK.

The next time we are in the Burlington area we know we do not have to look around for accommodation - we have already found it.
