This was our first time seeing a show at the Rose Theatre, even though we live within walking distance. We usually get out to Stratford at least once per year - we've seen some incredible productions there. So it was with relatively lower expectations that we saw 'Little Shop of Horrors' in early August, 2013.
I was blown away - we really, really enjoyed it (and my husband hates musicals!). Such a quirky production, and so entertaining (if the Dentist was going for 'creepy', he did a great job - I was thoroughly creeped out). The main stars, playing Seymour and Audrey, were so sweet and really fit the parts well. One thing that really stunned me was the signing quality - the three street urchins could really belt it out!
Overall, we had an excellent time, and were happy to be able to support our local community (hey, Downtown Brampton can use all the help it can get!). I must say it was such a pleasure to be able to walk to the theatre and back, instead of having to drive an hour and a half to get to Stratford. I did not believe this production would be on par with anything I've seen in Stratford, but I would honestly say that it was just as good, if not on a considerably smaller scale.
A note on the theatre itself - very nice, bathrooms were great, they had a wine/snack bar (intermission was a reasonable amount of time). So the Rose Theatre really has it together on that account.
I am genuinely looking forward to the next season, and am so glad that I gave the Rose Theatre a chance!
