I suppose this is bound to happen when a place changes hands. At one time their battered haddock was simply to die for, with mounds of excellent fries. Now, it's just about OK, with higher prices and smaller portions.
And very poor service. Our waiter on Saturday was OK, but he was fighting a losing battle against a non-existent bar service - the bar was totally unmanned at lunchtime on a Saturday, and we had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks. I mean, how long does it take to pour two beers?
The waiter came back to take our order, before the drinks had arrived, and he told us that he had placed our drinks order - in other words, "Sorry, folks, this is not my fault." And it wasn't because the place was packed - it was pretty empty. I'm really not surprised.
Having a great location is simply not enough. And relying on past reputation just doesn't work. The problem is that every other fish restaurant that we've tried in Belleville is worse. If anyone can recommend one, please do.
