“Poor service, food going downhill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

I suppose this is bound to happen when a place changes hands. At one time their battered haddock was simply to die for, with mounds of excellent fries. Now, it's just about OK, with higher prices and smaller portions.

And very poor service. Our waiter on Saturday was OK, but he was fighting a losing battle against a non-existent bar service - the bar was totally unmanned at lunchtime on a Saturday, and we had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks. I mean, how long does it take to pour two beers?

The waiter came back to take our order, before the drinks had arrived, and he told us that he had placed our drinks order - in other words, "Sorry, folks, this is not my fault." And it wasn't because the place was packed - it was pretty empty. I'm really not surprised.

Having a great location is simply not enough. And relying on past reputation just doesn't work. The problem is that every other fish restaurant that we've tried in Belleville is worse. If anyone can recommend one, please do.

“Very good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is a great restaurant to go to for special yet informal occasions. It is nice to sit at a table and look out over the harbour. Food is very good, and the owner and staff are very friendly and customer-oriented.

“Average But Passable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

If you like fried seafood then this is the place to go. Battered haddock was fried perfect (one piece), Unfortunately a couple of breaded shrimp and chewey small scallops didn't fare so well. Pasta with crab had a good general crab flavour but way over-priced. In fact, everything in this restaurant was way over-priced. Nothing on the menu really stood out as being different than the seafood found at any other roadhouse pub, But this isn't a roadhouse pub and we expected some "signature dishes" and creative dishes from a seafood restaurant. Not here.

Did I say that the fried food was good!

The service was good once it started. After being seated, we waited, and waited, and waited (Patience is a virtue) till finally I went to the bar and asked them to send a waitress.

“Seafood galore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

It's a spure of the moment decision to find a seafood place which led us here. Thank you to the good reviews from tripadvisor. Place was quiet, I guess 1230pm was early on a Labor Day. We were greeted with a smile ,and being seated at a booth with views of the water ,and yachts. They had a lobsterfest ,and good seafood selection. Ordered a shrimp and steak with fries and 2lb. snow crab legs which, mind you, was soo good. Once you cracked the shell open, you can pull the crab meat whole and dip it in their melted butter that was kept above a lit candle. Beat that! Butter will stay melted. Ceasar salad and mash potato was also good. Full and satisfied with your èntree but there's always a room for dessert. Had a triple chocolate brownie with ice cream which ends our lunch very well. Would definitely go back here.

“Great Food, Generous Portions, Good Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We have eaten at the Boathouse on our two trip to Canada this summer and both times have been very happy with the food and the service. The portions are generous and the side selection is extensive. We found the prices to be very fair for the quality and amount of food.
