“A nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Usually stay here when I'm in Barrie and always enjoy my stay. Except for the pool or hot tub being "out of commission" a couple of times, I have no bad thing to stay about this hotel. Rooms are always clean & comfortable and the continental breakfast is adequate.

Thank you for your favourable comments regarding your recent stay with us. We would however like to apologize that the hot tub was closed. We were waiting to receive a replacement heater which finally arrived. The hot tub was back in operation on November 2, 2012. On your next trip to the hotel you will be able to enjoy it.

Sincerely,

Mary Lewis

This was a one-night stay. The rooms are fairly basic but with a queen-size bed, sofa, table and office chair, free internet access, a wide-screen TV, and the rooms are of adequate size. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was included - muffins, some hot-food items, coffee and juice, muffins, bananas. A very adequate breakfast. Check-out was fast and efficient. Check-in was slow because there was just one receptionist who was answering the phone while I was waiting to check in (that may reflect my impatience !).

This is a busy place; it is right off the highway and next to a billion crummy strip malls. The hotel is very standard, large and on our particular weekend, very busy. As with other travelodges we've experienced in Northern Ontario, this one had those same familiar undertones of stale cigarette smoke and questionable, nebulous stains all about the dark blue carpets found throughout the place.
That being said, the room itself was fine. No noticeable flaws except for the lamp in the room being broken. No, the light bulb wasn't burned out - the switch had been broken off entirely. This was a rather big deal since the lighting in the room was thus limited to a lamp on the desk. The dimness projected a rather grim mood and we were glad when night once again turned to day and no longer had to use our laptop screens for extra light.
Be warned - if you happen to stay on a Friday or Saturday night be prepared for young people in the doorways drinking, smoking and not being mindful of noise levels, etc. Luckily our room was toward the end and I would recommend anyone wanting to fall asleep before one or two in the morning to follow suit with that room choice.
The bathroom was familiarly clean yet grimy at the same time. It seemed to be in some state of flux, with a new countertop to go along with tile and caulk from twenty years ago.
The continental breakfast was utterly standard and not worth mentioning. They were out of decaf coffee.
The front desk lady was exceedingly friendly in a rather spaced out sort of way.

Room Tip: On the fringe, away from the masses.
