“Fine stay for one night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

For a one night stay it wasn't too bad, but I wouldn't want to stay for a long period of time. Our room was right above the valet loading/entrance to the hotel so it was quite noisy. Housekeeping didn't check the alarm on the alarm clock and it ended up going off from when the last guests set it, at 2:30 am. Check in and check out was both very quick and easy, and we never had to wait for the valet service. The TV was very outdated, but you were able to rent movies on it which was a plus. The bathroom was nice and large as well as the rest of the room with a nice big window. Overall it was a good stay, I would just avoid the section of the hotel above the entrance.

I have to agree with the statements of the recent guest below - Mediocre sums it up. I try to stay at Marriotts if possible due to all the favourable experiences I have had. This was a big disappointment after reading all the reviews and picking one of the best and most expensive rooms in order to have the private balcony and view.
There wasn't one major event - just a lot of little things that made this a really unremarkable stay. The girl at check-in wasn't very helpful or knowledgable about a few things - one being the hours of the restaurant attached to their building outside... The room had a fabulous view but was dated - old style carpeting, old TV but with some newer furnishings. However, not the cleanest room in the world. I found a bobby pin and eye-liner on the floor - vaccummed....?? The base of the closet system was dirty/dusty and smelled. Outside on the balcony was some crumpled up tissue on a chair and some weeds and dead flowers pulled from the flower box and the chairs all askew. Obviously no one had been out there to straighten up. The bed was comfy but unfortunately, there is a vent over it (ceiling) and I was able to very clearly hear the chatter of a few girls late into the night. The next day we were in and out exploring Halifax and every time we came back our room had not been cleaned. Finally, at 5 the housekeeping was just finishing....I found that to be a little late as generally this would be the time tourists may be coming back in for a rest or to get ready for dinner. The icing on the cake was the second night I was awoken to the sounds, through the vents, of a couple having sex and then their chatter and laughter after. They may as well have been in the bathroom - it was that loud and something I didn't want to be privy to. Due to all the above we checked out a day early. We did bring all of the above to the attention of the manager who kindly adjusted one night accordingly.
I also found the price to be way to much for this hotel - even without the incidences. The grounds are beautiful, location excellent, valet excellent but for the price of the room (breakfast NOT included), the parking costs and heavy taxes the value wasn't there. We stayed in 2 other Inns during this trip and they were much better all round and cheaper. Even though the stay was not exceptional at this particular location I would stay at a Marriott again.

The location of this Courtyard is second to none, unfortunately that along with a great valet service are the only two major positives. The girls at the front desk don't seem to know the area very well and made a few meal suggestions that I deeply regret following. The room is nothing more than average and there is absolutely no perk to being a Marriott Elite member. Would I stay here again? Possibly, if the rate is more reasonable. $239.00/night is far too much for this hotel.

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms give something beautiful to look at. Try to stay away from the wings, internet co...

Earlier this week my wife and I had the pleasure of staying 3 nights at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Halifax. What a great location. The room was very comfortable and had all the necessary amenities. The staff at the front desk, bell desk, housekeeping, and at the restaurant were all friendly and very customer-oriented. Carol is one of the waitresses that works in the restaurant, she is the most uplifting professional waitress we've ever come across --- having experienced her exceptional service and positive disposition each breakfast, we met with Frank and Dave (hotel management, who were very friendly and welcoming) to let them know how impressed we were and that we'd be coming back to stay again as soon as we can.
I'm an executive responsible for customer management for a financial services organization, and have an eye for talent and high quality customer experiences. The Courtyard Marriott downtown Halifax surpassed our expectations and we highly recommend this hotel!

We arrived with a pickup truck and a small trailer in town. Parking was unavailable. We had to park in a lot across the street that was a municipal lot and pay by credit card and hope for the best since we were using 2 spots.
However, hotel is lovely and we walked to the Citadel and along the waterfront which is right across the street and drove to Peggy's Cove from there which meant we had to drag our trailer along since we couldn't leave it unattended in the lot.
Absolutely amazing dinner next door at DaMaurizios!

After getting off the VIA train, we took a cab to the hotel, not to long of a cab ride. The service was good, room was good, hotel restaurant was good, great view, and close to the pier ! I would go back again if were ever back in Halifax again.

Lovely hotel in great location minutes wallking distance from Harborfront Market where you must have the chowder and lobster roll lunch/brunch and walk around.

Front desk staff and restaurant staff were so kind and helpful.
Charming, cosy lobbyside dining area. Would be nice if they included breakfast.
Large quiet comfortable rooms.
