“Great for a long term stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Overall the hotel was good. I recommend staying in a room facing the bay and on a higher level as the noise from the surrounding bars can be a bit much.

My favourite part was heading down to the Fishermans Market on the Bedford highway for some live lobster and cooking it in my hotel room.

I wish I had read the reviews here before booking this hotel. I agree with all who said the hotel is clean, well-maintained and for the most part the staff are courteous. We stayed for three nights; the final night being New Year's Eve.

Clearly the proximity to the downtown bars dictated the clientele for the night of the 31st. Upon returning to hotel at 11:00 pm after dinner, we were greeted by fire trucks and locked doors. The harried front desk clerk was clearly in over her head and snapping at guests to get out of the lobby. She instructed us to go to our room; "Everything is OK." It was pretty clear that the alarms were triggered by cigarette smoke. Those smoking should have been asked to leave this smoke-free property.

We watched the outdoor fireworks at 12:00 am and settled into bed around 12:30. I recognize that on NYE, things aren't going to settle down early, I would even expect to hear revelers returning through the night. Unfortunately, we were subjected to loud music and raucous noise until well after 3:00 am. This was not from the outside bar scene, but originated inside the hotel. I finally, called Guest Services just before 2:00am and received the standard "We'll send someone to check on it." When my husband complained in the morning, he was told that it was NYE and there wasn't anything they could do. We travel a lot and almost every NYE we are in a hotel, including Times Square in NY. Never have I heard noise like this - I've never had to call the Front Desk about noise in a hotel before.

Guests should be warned that this hotel is for late night partiers only.

Lots of noise heard in your room at this hotel with steps away from several waterholes. Too bad because I loved the room. It was very spacious, clean, bright, everything you need in the kitchen, nice sitting area, good size bathroom and the Paul Mitchell amenties was a nice treat. We asked to move but the only other rooms were on the other side where the other bar's located so not much better. We were on the upper floor. Nice gym. The front desk seemed used to this comment made the next morning, she just looked at us and smiled. Great location but be prepared from Thurs-Sunday to not sleep much before 2am

We stayed here and really enjoyed it, especially for the price. The location is very central to many downtown attractions and the staff were friendly. We have no negative comments about this hotel and would stay here again!

We have held business meeting events in this location for the last couple of years. The hotel is perfect for our needs and the staff treat us the very best. I can't say enough about how easy they make this event for us. They bend over backwards to make sure we are happy and everything is taken care of to our pleasing. Rooms are very clean and well kept. The recent improvements to their continental breakfast area are georgeous and their hot breakfast is fantastic! If you are staying in downtown Halifax, especially if it's for a few days try this hotel. It's location is great and the staff will look after you!!

Great downtown location, but the noise from the bars made for two sleepless nights. It may be better during the week, but we won't take the chance. It would have been nice if the staff was more sympathetic, however I can only image this is a routine complaint.

This is the third year in a row that my girlfriends and I have stayed at this hotel. It has a nice little kitchen which includes frig, stove, microwave and dishwasher. The cupboards are stocked with dishes and a huge king bed with a very comfy pull out sofa make it a perfect spot for four people. It is spotlessly clean. The breakfast (which is included in the price of the hotel) is lovely. Hot cereal, eggs cooked two ways, bacon, potato, yogurt, cold cereal, fruit, pancakes, make your own waffles etc etc. It in a perfect location to check out the surrounding night life and restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher up to avoid noise from the late night party crowd. We were on the 4th floor an...
