I'd visited Jungle Jim's several times before and been, frankly, disappointed. After not visiting for a year or so we decided to give the restaurant one last shot. I was impressed with the online menu and decided to try the Mexi Combo because it looked AMAZING on the online menu.
I wound up being served something so horrible the cook should've been ashamed to send it out of the kitchen. To say the least, my actual meal looked nothing like the one in the picture of the online menu.
The nachos had olives on it that looked old, the processed cheese that had been melted over the nacho chips looked like plastic...that or as if the cook had spread cheese whiz over them and then thrown it in the microwave. The nachos were also so greasy I could almost see through them. The chicken wings had a layer of grease floating on top. There was no way I was going to spend $14 on such a meal.
I told the waitress my concern and she seemed to think the food looked fine. I asked for the menu again so I could order something else. The waitress gave that to me and then returned to re-take my order - about 15 minutes later! By then my husband had finished his fish and chips he'd ordered. When I was asked what I'd like to order, I said I wasn't going to bother as I'd had to wait so long to re-order that my husband had finished his meal. The waitress told me she was busy - well I'd seen how 'busy' she was. She'd seated two or three other groups of customers and chatted at length with someone in the restaurant.
She was nice enough to listen to my concerns however. When she asked my husband how his fish was he gave his honest answer - it was cold and greasy and bland. The fish tasted like nothing at all. He did enjoy the chips though.
We went to Frank N Ginos (which was delightful - prompt service and fresh food!) so my day wasn't ruined...however my poor husband got ill from the fish he'd eaten at Jungle Jim's!! :(
We will absolutely NOT be back. The prices are too high for the quality of food. The food tastes awful and is obviously either not fresh or is 'fresh frozen'. I see no reason to visit and pay my hard earned money plus tip for such a sad meal...and I won't keep trying at a restaurant that has disappointed me over and over again and made my husband ill.
