“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

My friend and I stayed here for 5 days last summer and enjoyed it immensely. Although, how can you not enjoy staying in Halifax. I love that city! But, back to the hostel. The person helping us at the front desk was very helpful the rooms were clean. Has a great patio out back where we could have a few wobblies and listen to some tunes... Also close to downtown and the wharf, which is a must. Across the street is Henry's House, which is an amazing restaurant/pub. You can't go wrong here!

We stayed 3 nights in this hostel. We had one of the private rooms with a shared bathroom, however it was only shared with another private room, so we almost had it to ourselves.
Bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. The kitchen had everything you need to provide for yourself. The location is great since it is right in the middle of the city
I would definitely stay again

The hostel has a great location. The centre of halifax is in walking distance. We arrived by train and walked from the train station. That was good after 21hours in the train.

The hostel is under a great, friendly management. You can get good food at a good price.
We had a private room for more privacy. The room was good, nothing special
All room-doors are decorated with the flags from all over the world, that makes a special flair.

Our private bathroom was across the floor, but everything was very clean.
You get a very good value for your money.

We would come back to the HI-Hostel

This hostel is located in a prime downtown area within walking distance of all the major sites and cool streets. The staff are very nice and efficient. The kitchen area is really well supplied with many cooking utensils (even a blender), free coffee, multiple fridges and a cheery cafe like area to eat in and also a nice looking outdoor patio. The room I stayed in was in the basement and smelled like sweat or dirty carpets and it was pretty dark down there due to not very many windows. The bathroom was clean.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the upper floor that doesn't face the street.

My mom and I stayed at HI Halifax for 3 nights in early August. We booked one of the private rooms (very reasonable price for two people) that had huge windows and included two beds (with bedding and pillows), table and fan. Our room was located in a private wing of the hostel with a living room and washroom (shared only with one other rooms occupants). The room was a little stuffy, but clean and comfortable. My only complaint would be that due to the hostel being so close to the harbour, the Seagulls woke us up every morning at 5am with their squawking, as we had the windows open due to no AC and it being super hot during our stay. On the main floor there is a huge kitchen where travelers are encouraged to store and cook their own food, a great way to save while travelling! The location of the Hostel is awesome as it is within walking distance of many different historical sites, restaurants, shops and harbour.

I stayed in the hostel for 4 nights. The location was great as it was close to the water and a grocery store. The common spaces were clean. The 4-bed dorm that I was in faced the street, which was loud, so I would highly suggest ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. But, overall, it was a good stay.

Stayed at HI Halifax for 4 nights, we have a wonderful stay. Helpful and cheerful staff; clean rooms and washrooms. Can't ask for more (budget range). Very close to waterfront, airport shuttle, superstore.
