I returned to Ontario from Nova Scotia and miss our beautiful Canadian province. What especially made our stay so wonderful was our experience at the Lord Nelson Hotel. We were 3 ladies who stayed a total of 4 nights, in July 2011, and were greeted by the best cordial and friendly staff. Although there was a little mix-up upon our arrival at the airport, as the arranged limo driver did not meet us, it was a minor problem and soon forgotten by such a great and memorable experience at the Lord Nelson.
My sister has a mobility issue, but that is not a problem here. The hotel provides excellent assistance with a wheel-chair accessible ramp. We noticed other guests requiring assisted devices were helped. The hotel deserves top rating for accessibility and support.
I want to make special acknowledgement of Susan, Scott and Andrea at the Reservation. All the front desk staff was great. Ron helped with directions and places of interest to visit. He is very knowledgeable and most accommodating. He demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly with his welcoming Nova Scotian personality. The feature of providing city maps along with helpful tips made traveling about easier.
All the porters we experienced were great. I only wish I could remember all their names. The entire house keeping staff we met was diligent and friendly. Our room was fabulous, very clean, spacious and toiletries by Aveda. We loved the character and charm of the hotel. The bathroom had a window that you could open, which is a nice feature. By the elevators there is an old brass Mail Box chute, from the 1920’s, which brought back time when postcards would be sent. Our room overlooked the manicured Public Gardens, of which we would take a morning stroll while appreciating the enriching colour and texture of the landscape designs while enjoying a gourmet coffee. We helped support local businesses as the hotel is ideally located on the corner of Spring Garden Avenue, shopping district!
I have to make mention of the breakfast staff, there was Gina and Meghan. They represent the hotel well, with their smiles and great service.
We were delighted to meet Keith, the house manager. He is a fabulous person. His personality shines, and we enjoyed conversing with him. He clearly makes a ‘good’ manager and deserves our respect.
It was a busy time at the hotel, as the Jazz festival was on, the Metallica concert, and bus tours. It was bustling; however the hotel staff did a superb job of keeping order yet remaining friendly under the added number of people.
In our experience we found the staff was proud of The Lord Nelson, and it shone through them. There were many hotels to choose from when I was planning our vacation; I felt I truly lucked in to have chosen The Lord Nelson.
Whenever I return to Halifax, there is only one hotel choice to make, 'The Lord Nelson'.
