We got married at the Harbourfront on August 19th, we booked in April 2010 and had private wedding coordinator who the hotel staff suggested, as well as a hotel wedding coordinator.
The hotel provide a very reasonable group rate for our guests. Some guests did not take advantage of the best before date and were able to get the rate after explaining their situation. I asked the hotel if we could get a discount for parking for the guest staying since the majority of our wedding guests were from out of province. They cut the parking by half for anyone staying at the hotel. I had welcome bags made and they kept them at the front desk and had flagged our guests in the computer so when they checked in they got handed a bag. They were more than helpful with this.
I met with Candice at the hotel initially to go over our plans, once with my fiance to do a menu tasting and again to finalize the day. The food was amazing! We had our cake from outside so we had a soup, a salad and a main from the hotel and cakes plated by hotel staff. Jeff our banquet captain was amazing. His staff serving the wedding was great, very sweet and they thought we were great to work with. Complimentary sandwiches and drinks were sent to the mens room the day of the wedding and although we had sandwiches at the salon he sent up complimentary water and pop to the girls suite as well.
The room was ready for rehearsal the day before even though there was another group in there until half an hour before we could have it to practice. We had a few issues with our cards not working in the two rooms but we had no problems getting staff to come let us in and fix our cards.
All our guest were happy with their rooms and the service, no one had trouble checkin in early and if there were issues with the rooms the hotel dealt with them quickly and without compromise. One couple checked in early and got a room without a view as it was not the room they were supposed to get, but once their room was ready they got a better view without problem.
The gym facility is great and even has individually wrapped ear phones for guests who forgot their and can be used on the cardio machines. Apples were available at the front desk and at the gym for guests and the cucumber water in the lobby was a hit.
I can't say enough good stuff about the hotel. Champagne and chocolates were left in our suite after the wedding and the beds are sssuupper comfy. Best choice we made!
Although not all rooms have a view of the harbour, the harbour itself is no view (oil refineries, etc) so you're not missing out. The Lower Deck next door can be heard if your room is on that side, but the hotel is in the popular bar district of Halifax on a main road. The music is done by 2 and I had no problem sleeping through the music while it was going on.
