“Stayed for one night - time for a bit of an update!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

I booked this hotel because of the great reviews. While it was clean and comfortable, I thought the room was dark and the decor was really out of date - all the fake flowers just have to go, right away! That all by itself would be an amazing improvement!

Still - the area was very quiet, and we had a good sleep. The view out over the lake is very nice. Since the area is so quiet, we really had little option (that we could find) other than eating in the motel restaurant. While breakfast was quite adequate, we were not impressed with the supper (I'm sure it did not help that we had just spent two nights at Wild Caraway in Advocate Harbour - tough to compete). I had a lobster sandwich, which was served on white bread - very forgettable.

It is a nice area of Cape Breton, a little off the beaten path.

I stayed for a couple of nights in August, then came back for 4 nights in October. The location is fantastic, great views, and centrally located. Equal distance to Sydney, Baddeck, and the Causeway. The owners are friendly, helpful, down to earth people who enjoy what they do. Did I mention live entertainment and a pleasant restaurant on site? I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Both my rooms were in the rear, with the second level patio facing the water. Excellent!

We stayed here on our road trip through Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. It was conveniently located just steps from the the Scottish Highland Village. Room was clean and comfortable, with an excellent view of Bras d'Or Lake. It seemed new or newly renovated, and tastefully decorated. We ate breakfast in the attached restaurant, which was very good and reasonably priced, with a nice ambiance.

My husband and I underestimated the time it would take to get to Iona once we arrived in Cape Bretton. The owners were very accomodating to us when we called multiple times to get directions (as we were navigating in the dark and on roads that we were unfamiliar with). We knew we would arrive after the restaurant was closed, but the owners told us not to worry. They arranged to keep the kitchen open for us, which was very thoughtful. We enjoyed our two night stay here in a lovely, nicely furnished room overlooking Bras d'Or Lake. The views of the lake were breathtaking from this vantage point. This Inn is a lovely place to stay for anyone visiting the nearby Cabot Trail.

Room Tip: All the rooms offer a view of Bras d'Or Lake.

Very nice Inn overlooking the most beautiful Bras d'Or Lake in Cape Breton. We had two rooms with kingsize bed(32/31). Great restaurant, live music, wonderful people and we were with our good friends to enjoy it.
***Located just steps from Highland Village Museum (must explore).
We truly loved it.

We stayed at the Inn for our sons wedding. Susan and Barry the owners were so helpful and kind we greatly appreciated all they did for our family and friends. The view is spectacular which reflects the warmth of the owners. The room and bathroom were very clean. The restaurant is cozy, the food well prepared. If you have an opportunity have the chocolate cheese cake it is unbelievably delicious (Andrew's recipe). The staff are very friendly and take time to talk to you with sincerity and interest to ensure your visit is a a pleasant experience.

We plan to return for a visit and take time to visit the Highland Village which is next door to the Inn.

We stayed at the Highland Heights Inn in August while visiting for a family reunion and had a great time! We had a lot of fun having dinner while clapping and enjoying the celtic music! The food was very good and all the staff and the owners were very friendly!! You can't beat the view! It really was a great place to stay and meet up with family! It is definitely a place to stay while you are visiting Cape Breton!
