“Fun afternoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012 via mobile

There's enough to see here to waste an hour or two taking photos and touring the museum. You can also easily walk down to the water. There are some beautiful views of the harbour and river. The trenches and walls that have been dug give the whole area a "rolling hills" feel, though they are in reality built for wartime.

“Simple and satisfying”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

We visited on Canada Day so we were treated to a concert by a local band and other events -- a small scale community celebration that added to the experience. The fort is built of earthworks with a wonderful view of the river and brief but informative markers. Good exercise in going up and down the steps and walkways so wear appropriate footwear. There is also a small building with exhibits that provide detailed explanations of the fort's history and a good overview of French and British occupation of the area. Since you are in the middle of the village of Annapolis Royal, there are many choices of restaurants nearby after touring the fort.

“Visit time well spent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

We toured the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, ending up at old fort Anne. The drive there was beautiful and interesting; use the old highway routes #1 and 201 instead of the main highway. The fort itself is similar to other Canadian historic forts such as Ontario's Fort Henry in Kingston and Fort George (Niagara-on-the-Lake) but worth the trip if you are in Nova Scotia. The exterior site (free) is quite large and is situated at the intersection of two rivers, thus making the location of military interest. The air is fresh and you can't help but feel good after a hike around the site. The small display inside the fort is no big deal but for $4 each, why not when you're there! Good washrooms. The town of Annapolis Royal is nice too with many small shops and activities. Count on a day trip from the Halifax area.

“Interesting historic fort overlooking the water.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

Small and not much of the original buildings or fortification left. The information on the fort in the museum building was interesting & the connections to the Acadians and first nations people.

“Very peaceful for a fortress.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

It is a small fortress but very nice. The grounds are impressive and they offer evening graveyard tours about 4 nites a week.
