“Just an Average B&B - Not quite the expectation the Reviews stated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

I am a frequent traveler and have traveled all over the United States and to Europe. I have stayed at many different kind of facilities. Of the many choices in the area to pick from, I decided based on the reviews, location and price. The fresh fruit salad for breakfast was some of best I've ever experienced. The location is very convenient for walking distance to all of the town's historical sites with several really nice restaurants nearby. Parking was ample and convenient. No air conditioning in the bedroom so had to keep the window open and ceiling fan on. Fortunately the breeze during the night was cooler. It was slightly stuffy during the day on the 2nd floor. Although the bedroom was of adequate size, there was not a desk in it. I inquired in advance of booking about confirming broad high-speed internet in the room since it was critical to my business travel. Upon arrival I quickly realized the wireless did not reach the room I was in on the 2nd floor. That in addition to no desk in the room, I had to spend time in the common area on the first floor when I needed to work online. It was not that much of an issue because most of the time I was the only one there. The biggest issue for me is almost insulting depending on your point of view. As a frequent traveler and company owner, I pride myself in deciding how much I'm going to tip which is directly related to my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the service, food and/or facilities. I am not accustom to being dictated upon presentation of my bill how much I "must" tip. There was nothing on the web site indicating there would be an additional 15% fee added to the bill automatically. I've been to places where i gladly paid as much as 20% for the rare occasion when the service is above and beyond. Its not that I'm not willing to pay a premium for quality. Its just that in all the places I've stayed as a world traveler, this place is simply average in all most accounts and below average in some.

I am sorry that your stay was less than expectation. You are mistaken about a service charge -there was no service charge added to your bill - the 15% added to the invoice is the Harmonized Sales Tax in Nova Scotia, which was clearly shown on the invoice and is collected on every good and service. When your room was booked, you specifically requested the room you were assigned. No mention was made of the need for a desk. If it had, I would have suggested a larger room that might have better met your specific needs. Many guests have successfully used the High Speed wireless connection from the room you occupied - I am not sure why it didn't work for you, but you were able to access it readily from other parts of the house.

You visited during quite a hot spell and I did offer to install the air conditioner for you, when you arrived, pointing out that it does reduce the fresh air flow through the window, when in place. You did not indicate that it was necessary so I did not put it in.

Again, my apologies that your stay At the Turret was not up to you expectations.

This is a great place to stay in Annapolis Royal. It's right opposite the original, but still working Court House and Fort Anne and an easy walk into town or the Historic Gardens.

The rooms are very attractively furnished with pretty quilts on the very comfy beds and nice decorative touches. Andrea your hostess can provide you with all the information you need on the local area. Breakfasts are really good and you share a huge table with fellow guests which means great conversations but often means a late start to the day if you find yourself in conversation with other travellers all telling their stories!

We went to Annapolis Royal to stage ourselves for a morning ferry ride to New Brunswick, and wished we had come earlier and stayed longer. At the Turret is a great place to stay, and within walking distance of almost everything in this charming historic town. The Historic Gardens are among the best in North America and the Old Fort is very interesting.

This B&B is in a beautifully kept house with gorgeous woodwork. Our room on the first floor was large, with a private entrance and side porch. The B&B offers other public spaces to its guests in the living room and on the front porch. Although the bathroom was narrow, there was space for our things. The bedroom was large and exquisitely decorated with antiques and fine linens. The innkeeper, Andrea, is very knowledgeable not only about Annapolis Royal, but the entire area. She steered us to interesting drives along the coast and places of interest that we hadn't gleaned from guide books. Breakfasts were ham and cheese quiche one day, and bacon and eggs the next along with fresh fruit. Her dogs were delightful.

The entire city of Annapolis Royal was a delight - made perfect by the friendly, clean, comfortable stay at the Turret. Andrea was most helpful in providing tips for activities and getting around. Their was a brief historical walking tour of city - which I did in AM before breakfast which was self-guided and lovely. Wireless, (painless hookup) was great and fast. Breakfast was wonderful - the fruit salad was so fresh and delicious - best I have had in a long time. i will be back and would stay at the urret in a heartbeat. Parking was simple and in front of home on street.

I had 3 days of an intense working schedule in Annapolis Royal. It was all made so easy and manageable because I could come home in the evening to a warm and cozy room and a hostess who was friendly welcoming and keen to make sure that I had everything I needed. The breakfasts in the beautiful dining room were just the thing to set me up for the day. This is just the place to stay for the business traveller or for the leisure traveller. I highly recommend it
