“Funky place for lunch or dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Had lunch here on a Saturday. Wasn't crowded, though I understand that it can get jammed at certain times, including most dinner times. Waiting in line at -20C; not for this puppy!

We had the local, fresh-caught pickerel (walleye to those of us from the States). I was expecting fish & chips, but the fish came griddled with some sauce, which is a much better thing to do with walleye (and certainly with Arctic char, which was another option). Came with good chips, decent salad, and delicious homemade bread. Really nice meal. But with a couple of root beers, came to over $70 for lunch. Turns out the rolls, salad, and chips all are priced separately.

Whole inside of the place is covered with writing and bumper stickers. Some of them were pretty funny. Need to go with a laid-back frame of mind..

Worth going here just for the "no sniveling" sign on the outside of this rather old log structure.

“Tasty food, friendly funky atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

We enjoyed a fish lunch at Bullocks Bistro on a very chilly but beautiful afternoon. The panfried whitefish was sooo good...done with seasoned breading and topped with a light(not a cream style) sauce. The meal included jumbo freshly baked biscuits with butter, green salad with homemade dressings (balsamic vinaigrette or blue cheese), and fries. My SO enjoyed his whitefish (battered and deep fried) also, saying the fish was cooked perfectly and flavor was great. Everything was very fresh and cooked to order.
It is a small restaurant and gets busy quickly. Be prepared to pay $25-$40 per entree. The beer selection was good, but they were running low on the soda selection.
We would absolutely return for another meal should we visit Yellowknife again.

“Bullock's bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We had musk oxen stew. It was cooked in curry sauce and it was good. This place had interesting atmosphere, a frontier feel. The food was not cheap. Most fish dishes are about $30 which consist of fish, fries and salad.

“Nice little bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

One of my colleagues brought me to Bullocks' back during my first visit to YK. The food is really good, and my favorites are the Grill Artic and their salad (forgot what that was). It must admit that it is pricey, but that's what you expect in YK. I went there on a quite evening, so my colleague and I were able to have the table all by ourselves.

Word of precaution, watch the butter, they use A LOT OF BUTTER on EVERYTHING that is pan seared.

I love the very casual atmosphere....

“Great food but way overpriced.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Excellent food, loud bawdy atmosphere. Ridiculous northern gouge a far as prices. It's bistro food done well but seriously paying forty bucks a plate for fish and chips and a good salad, no thanks we stopped going here. The menu doesn't really change and you have to get your own drinks. It's a fun experience I think that is what they count on but so not worth the price.
