“Easy to Take Lots of Great Photos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Our traditional dog sled ride was arranged by Yellowknife Outdoor Adventures. We were picked up from our hotel on time and driven to Beck's. As soon as we got there, we were greeted and told we could go to the waiting area as mentioned in some of the reviews. Well my 10-year old daughter must not have heard because she made a beeline to see the sled dogs. She spotted an enclosure that included some puppies and we were soon taking photos and visiting all the enclosures. We were able to walk up to where the majority of sled dogs are housed and take photos as well. Then we watched a dog team pull a sled into the yard. After the sled was unloaded and the dogs changed out, we were invited into the sled. One of the greeters offered to take a few photos of us and then we were off. You can tell the dogs knew the routine as there were almost no verbal instructions needed from the young musher. Given the temperature, we thought the ride once around Grace Lake was about right. When we got back, we asked a second greeter to take photos of our family of four, which was not a problem. We were then asked if we wanted to get out of the cold and wait in the waiting room for our ride. We declined and took photos with some of the sled dogs who had pulled our sled instead. A van pulled up within a few minutes and we had our ride back to town. This was quite a different experience than we had in Alaska with a much higher-priced Disney shore excursion, but we enjoyed our time with the sled dogs.

“Disappointing experience. Expected much more.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

My wife and I did the Ride Along 30min trip. Not a good experience. Very disorganized. We got there and went to the office and waited almost 20 min before anyone showed up! Then, when we finally got to go to the sled, they crammed us in with 3 other tourists we'd never met. We sat in the very back, so it was hard to see. Half way through the trip my foot fell asleep and I couldn't move it because of the way we were all tucked in. Then I got a cramp. It was miserable. I was expecting we would have our own sled. Not so. The dogs were cool. You can tell they love to run.

Don't waste your money here. Go rent a snowmobile with Carlos and yellowknife outdoor adventures instead. Way better!

“Disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014 via mobile

I was the only one of forty- six on the coach with English as a first language. The coach arrived at the aurora venue where the guides asked everyone to wait until they had set up a generator to get the lights on. Then we were allowed into the long, soulless cabin, with seats lined up each side, while the guides lit a wood burning stove. The site was located close to a road, so that the 'glow' of vehicle lights would appear in photographs - not that we saw the aurora (hardly Beck's fault!). I've been to Whitehorse and Fort McMurray to see the aurora, where both venues were set up prior to guests arriving. What else would you expect? Disappointing to say the least. Disrespectful to guests and poor management.

“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

The actual dog-sledding part was great fun, but the overall experience was poor. We booked a "one hour dog sled tour". However, the actual sledding was only 20 minutes. For the rest of the time we were basically in the waiting room. There was absolutely no sense of service or effort. Even the guide was silent throughout the whole thing - it just felt like the staff were going through the motions and it was completely lacklustre. No explanations, information or introductions. For the money, this was poor value.

“A night-time sog-sled ride under the Aurora Borealis!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

This was our second dog-sledding and aurora viewing adventure. This was very well-organized and the guides were friendly and informative. With four people in our sled + musher, we set out on a 40-minute ride to a cabin. I appreciated that the mushers looked after the dogs before opening the cabin and getting us set up with hot drinks and snacks. Then we spent the next few hours outside watching the Aurora, with short trips back to the cabin to warm up.

The darkness at this location is hampered by its proximity to the airport, and so I would like to see them be more attentive to the light they CAN control, namely cabin lights and car headlights (as some customers arrive by van, and they used the van lights when chopping wood).

The sled ride back was magical, since the Aurora was showing nicely all the way!
