The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre is a great museum. Admission is free, though we gladly made a donation, which was very well-deserved.
Usually the museums I've visited have been overrun with people. This one was blessedly quiet and uncluttered, and we saw very few people as we wandered from one room to the next. It was almost like having the entire place to ourselves.
There are some cool exhibits on Native life (you can even try on some traditional clothing--we did, and it was a blast) some neat displays of local wildlife, but for me, the best part was the photography. There are some absolutely amazing photographs spanning several decades. I was particularly taken with one photo from the 1940s that was so crisp and clear I'd swear it was taken just a few days ago.
When in Yellowknife, stop and explore the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. It's well worth it.
