“A Great Dining Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

My wife and I were visiting St. John's for the first time and wanted to find a nice place to celebrate our Anniversary. Tripadvisor gave Portobello's good reviews so we reserved before we left on our holiday. On our arrival at the restaurant we were warmly greeted and promptly seated in the area we had requested... which was on the 2nd level by the windows. Such a nice view of the harbour.
The service was quick and friendly (such nice people there). We ordered a 1/2 litre of wine and for an appetizer we had cod tongues (not really tongues, but it is taken from the cheek area) and crab cakes. Both were delicious. For entrees we had the cashew chicken and cod dinners. They too were great. We would highly recommend Potobello's.

“Portobello's Restaurant – Ok food poor service!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

Portobello's Restaurant is another great choice if you want a nice view of the St. John's Harbour. Talk around town is that Portobello's Restaurant is one of the nicer restaurants around town but not at the same status as say Raymonds. Once we arrived we had to wait about 3-5 minutes for someone to talk to us and take us to our table. That was not a big deal we figured they were busy. Their selection on the menu was small but all of the selections looked great, however if you do not like fish or beef this may not be the best place for you. At our table we order both fish and beef meals and we most say both the fish and fish meals were very good however the potato served was not cooked in some cases it was impossible to cut though.

What disappointed me the most and would stop me from visiting again or recommending Portobello's to friends is the service at this restaurant they seem unorganized and had little concern that people were spends large amounts of money to eat their. Our server personally was good but I can not say that about the others working their. While taking our order another server kept interrupted her asking how to make something in the kitchen. Another server ran into another table and knocked red wine all over the two guests and keep going. She came back in about a minute to clean up the mess. The servers were dressed to go to a shopping trip at the mall and not dress to work at a fine restaurant.

Our meal for two was about $130 which included two glasses of wine but no desert which was not that bad for a night out.

“AMAZING!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

Fantastic yet again. This evening I ate at Portobello's for a work function with 12 colleagues. The place was packed, so busy with small tables of families and large corporate tables too. The service was great, our wine and water glasses always full. The portions were HUGE I couldn't even finish my main course and dessert was delicious. Kudos to the staff and chef. I will keep coming back if it's always this good.
