The Magic Wok Eatery has the nicest, friendliest and most attentive staff and the restaurant is very clean and nice -- it even has a fireplace -- but the food was terrible.
For our starters we had the soup with tofu with mixed vegetables and to say it was salty would be an understatement. It literally tasted like hot water with an entire salt shaker dumped inside of it. It actually hurt my lip from all of the salt. I had my spouse (who loves salt) taste it to see if it was just me but nope, it was that salty even for a salt lover.
My spouse had the spring rolls and did not like anything about them except their crispiness. They did not taste very good nor did they come with any sauce.
For our entrees we shared the Singapore Rice Noodle and Flambe Beef. The Singapore Rice Noodle lacked flavor and was overwhelmed with sliced onions but with several packets of plum sauce, it was edible. The Flambe Beef was a different story. It looked so appealing in the photo and they do a nice job lighting it aflame in front of their customers but it had no taste despite the fact BBQ sauce (or something that looked like it) was poured over the top. I couldn't eat more than one bite.
Due to the inferior food, we won't be returning. This is one of the worst Chinese meals I've ever had and not just in St. John's.
