“What a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

The Courtyard is facing the harbor. You are as close as ever looking out your window at the ships as they enter and exit. Yesterday the Caribbean Princess sailed into the harbor, what a sight watching her pull up to the pier. The Courtyard has it's own restaurant and is within walking distance of many, many more in St. John's. It is up the street from all of the tourist sites. I'll be back.

Room Tip: Make sure your room faces the harbor.

Thank you for taking the time to write this wonderful review. Watching the Princess come in was certainly a sight to see and you definitely had a front row seat! We are very happy to hear that the location and property met your expectations and we look forward to your next visit!

My wife and I enjoyed 2 nights in August at the Courtyard and will definitely stay there again. .All of the restaurants in the downtown are within easy walking distance and the central tourist sites are easily reachable using your car or a taxi. We found the staff particularly attentive and friendly. The front desk people were as good as any in more expensive hotels. We never heard a sound during the night.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 7th floor or as high as possible, overlooking the harbour. The view is as good...

This was our 2nd time staying at the Courtyard. Great location - walking distance to downtown and Signal Hill. Comfortable mattresses, quiet room. Decent restaurant with a great view and very pleasant staff.

Room Tip: As for a room on the top floor overlooking the harbour

Canada/US coast to coast, hotel #18, 3 nights

This is the first time I've been assigned a room below the lobby. One time I entered the elevator with a lady and pressed down and she said to me "what's down there" and I said "the dungeons". At least due to the fact the hotel is on a hill we had a window that gave us a bit of a harbour view. I can't even imagine what the people across the hall had for a view, did they even have a window. Other than the descending below the lobby the hotel room was quite fine, clean and comfortable. The staff were courteous and I slept very well. We would stay at this hotel again.

Thank you for your honest feedback! We are delighted to hear that your room was clean and comfortable and that you enjoyed the view of the harbour. We would like to note that there were no guestrooms on the other side of the hall on the level that you stayed on, all guest rooms at our property have a window! Our property is designed to maximize space and views given that we are built on one of the many beautiful hills in St. John's! We appreciate that you took the time to share your comments and we hope to welcome you back again soon!

Given the quality and high standards associated with the brand, I had thought this property would have been better given the high room rate. I have stayed at several other Courtyard properties and this one certainly pales in comparison.
The property seems worn and in need of updating. Experienced several annoying noises throughout the night making the stay very unenjoyable. No breakfast included?? I would not stay at this property again.

We had a junior suite overlooking the harbour. Watching all the activity around the ships was fascinating. We had a problem with a tour booking that was rescheduled and the hotel staff fixed it all for us. The location was perfect for walking around downtown, Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi and just about everywhere. We were given printouts for directions to Cape Spear and Petty Harbour and any question we asked was answered promptly and accurately. We would stay here again for sure.

Arrived at this hotel as part of package which included flight plus four nights accommodation. We were not off to a good start having had trouble booking our plane seats and then car rental difficulties. The hotel had no record of our reservation and it was questionable as to whether they had any rooms left. We had all of our papers which hotel staff took for investigation. We were taken to the lounge and offered refreshments and assured we would be taken care of. The Staff (Stewart at reception and Front Office Manager, Kymm Bennett) went to work to solve the problem. It took a very long time but they kept us updated and we were told not to worry and they were very apologetic even though it was obvious the hotel was not at fault here. After one hour and many phone calls to the airline and travel agency staff were at a dead end. Kymm Bennett did a lot of shuffling etc and soon after we were assigned to our beautiful room and were given complimentary drink vouchers and again the management apologized for our predicament and for the delay getting us a room. The room was perfect - everything was perfectly clean and the bed, linens, furniture etc was all in new condition. We had an excellent view of the harbour with many ships coming and going. Signal Hill was also visible. It was the perfect location. During our stay the staff/management continued to check in on us to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We were not charged for our accommodations even though to our knowledge the problem was not rectified during our stay. The whole approach to this matter by the hotel staff made the difference between a wonderful visit to St. Johns or an ugly situation. Thanks so much to everyone!! We would highly recommend a visit to this hotel in old downtown St.Johns, NFLD.
Perfect in every way. St. Johns and the Avalon Peninsula was a beautiful, friendly place to vacation. We'll be back.
