“Partridgeberry Room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

First time staying in the Partridgeberry room! Lovely room, very spacious & an excellent choice if you are not looking for a jacuzzi. Has a wood burning fireplace & of course a fire log was complimentary. As usual the staff were great and Compton House is an excellent compliment to Leaside.

The Compton House was a very nice alternative to a hotel. The staff were very friendly & kind. The room was large, warm, and welcoming. The attention to detail was obvious as everything was thought of from wine glasses, dvd player, Q-Tips, tea candles. The quality of the room was excellent, there was a double Jazzui tub, dimming pot lights, the bed was extremely comfortable, the large open concept bathroom had in floor heating, walk in shower, ironing board. I would recommend the Compton House to anyone who wishes to get more for their money while staying in St.John's. Much better quality then a hotel room for the same price. The only thing that didn’t impress me was the amount of noise from traffic in the hallways. Especially during breakfast hour.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main door, kitchen, or office area to avoid noise from traffic & br...

We stayed at Compton House this past weekend, in the Fogo apartment. This is a great place to stay so that your teenager can have some privacy. However it is small. The downstairs consists of the living room/kitchen combo. The couch is a pull out bed and there is a table for two. The kitchen area has all the amenities, it is just very small if you are going to cook (which we did not). However there are very few places in St Johns where you are going to find such a place. The stairs leading to the second floor are very narrow. The bathroom was ok- it had lots of room but needs updating. There is no vanity therefore really nowhere to put your stuff. The cupboard/mirror combo above the sink is very outdated. Basically the whole bathroom needs an overhaul- it would be nice to have a jacuzzi tub in this apartment also- the one we usually stay at in Leaside Manor, does. I realize that it is an old house but the couple of stairs in the bathroom that are obviously left over from some reno, and the two doors in the place that are locked, are weird and a bit creepy. There is no air conditioning which would be a real issue in the summer, especially upstairs. There is a fan in the bedroom which was fine for May month. The bed I assume is a double ??was too small for us. There is very little room on either side of the bed for the nightstands so I felt it was up in my face. The bedroom furniture needs updating. Overall our stay was pleasant but I would not stay in this apartment again. I am picky I guess, I am sure that many would find it great. It was very clean, amd the one big perk to out room was that it has its own entry which I loved. Breakfast was excellent, we had it in our room. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The rest of the house
looked very lovely and the property is beautiful.

My husband and I spent our first anniversary at Compton House. It was beyond our expectations! The staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was large and oh so romantic! They added tea lights and rose petals to the jacuzzi to enhance the ambiance! It was also quiet and the complimentary hot breakfast the next morning was again, more than we expected, as well as delicious. We couldn't have asked for anything better! We're already planning another night out for ourselves as well as booking our daughter and her, soon-to-be new husband, a room for the night after their wedding. We highly recommend staying here!
