“Genuine People and Superb B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2005

The first stop on our round the world trip and our holiday began with a top class experience. We stayed four days.

The Canadian owners are geniune, warm and welcoming. Our booking was handled efficiently and in a friendly manner by email. The photos supplied of the rooms were very helpful and accurate.

Our flights arrived into Newfoundland in the early hours of the morning and the owner remained awake to welcome us. It was so special.

The room is so very beautiful. This B&B sets the benchmark which others will be lucky to match. The beds are very comfortable and every homecomfort was available. The rooms are presented with antiques and luxury furnishings.

Breakfast was delicious. Perfectly cooked and varied. The ambience was great and enabled guests to chat about our experiences.

A fabulous plus point is the welcome received every evening when we returned from our excursions. We shared our enjoyment over a glass of wine and received many ideas for things to do.

The B&B is ideally located within an easy walk of historic buildings, shops and restaurants. It is a short drive from the airport and other routes out of town.

Conclusion. Whilst we started our trip here we eventually drove over 8,000km in Canada and covered six Provinces. We stayed in many B&Bs. Banberry House was quite simply the best. We will go back again and again and again.

My husband and I enjoyed an unforgettable October weekend at the Banberry House during the height of the fall colors. We arrived on a Friday in the late afternoon, and were welcomed warmly by our host Elizabeth.
We spent two nights in the wonderfully cozy Labrador room. The bed was extremely comfortable, the fireplace cozy, and the bathroom was luxurious. Breakfast at the Banberry House is a real treat, and is among the very best we have ever experienced.

Went there in June 2004, the room and the staff exceeded my expectations. The cozy fireplace in my room topped it off, and the breakfast was terrific. Not sure why the “not up to par” person had smoke in the room, all the rooms are no smoking, perhaps the fireplace was lit without the flue open, and being cold in August must be an oxy moron. Our experience was 5 star all the way.

The room I was given smelled of smoke as if a campfire had been lit in the room and left to smolder without ventilation. It was also extremely cold, especially in the bathroom, the bed was hard and the room door was next to impossible to lock or unlock and required the assistance of the housekeeping staff to do it. On top of that, the lovely stained glass at the top of the windows let the morning light in when the sun came up which literally had me awake at the crack of dawn.
Apart from that, breakfast was from 8:30 to 9:00 am. ONE HALF HOUR in which to get to the dining room and eat before they closed down the kitchen. On arrival at breakfast, I was told that the menu consisted of pancakes ONLY although it was obvious other guests at the table had cereal and/or bagels. And the pancakes I was served were cooked around the edges and the middle was uncooked batter filled with berries.

Just returned from four fabulous nights at the Banberry B & B in St. John's, Nfld. I strongly recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting St. John's - you will not be disappointed!

My room and all common areas were beautifully furnished and decorated. All areas spotlessly clean. Incredibly delicious, large hot breakfasts each day. The host and her staff were all welcoming, kind, gracious and most helpful in every way.

The house is centrally located in the city within walking distance of any points of interest in the downtown area. Several city bus routes have stops just outside the front door for travelling to locations on the perimeter of the city, e.g. university, college, hospitals, legislature, shopping centres, etc.

The back yard abuts the lovely Bannerman Park, and there is only one house to the east before again being on park grounds. It is situated in a scenic neighbourhood of beautiful, large historic homes. The Colonial Building and Lt. Governor's residence are on the same street, just a couple minutes walk away.

I wish I could return to St. John's just to stay at the Banberry B & B again!
