As B and B's go, this one is above average. The room and bed were comfortable with a nice view of the harbour. There's a nice orientation folder re St. John's which we found helpful. The breakfasts were generous and tasty as were the afternoon cookies. Wanda and Bill were helpful in everyway and very pleasant.

The towels and bathrobes were fine, but there wasn't much room to put out toiletries in the bathroom and the hot/cold water basin faucets were a bit tricky. There was no housekeeping during our three night stay. The sun does rise early in June and after the first morning I remembered to put on my night shades from previous plane trips.

As for restaurants, get reservations at Chinched, if you can.

Room Tip: Remember that it's an old house and that voices carry a far!

We stayed at the Chef's Inn during our first trip to St. John's in August of 2012. Bill and Wanda were extremely accommodating hosts. They graciously accommodated our late arrival (1:00 a.m.). Our room was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room to organize and feel at home for the four nights we were there. The food was excellent, and there was always a 'welcome home' snack on the dining room table in the late afternoon and evenings. It is a perfect location from which to set out and explore St John's, either on foot or in a car. Breakfast conversations were wonderful, with lots of tips from Bill and other guests on what to see and where to go. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back there in a heartbeat.

My husband and I had never been to Newfoundland and were fortunate enough to be invited to a wedding in St. John's in early September. The wedding group suggested we stay at a large chain hotel, but hearing about St. John's infamous hospitality we thought we would stay at a B&B. We chose The Chef's Inn based on another traveler's review and their stay in The Narrows Room. The room was fabulous and we had a great view of the harbor! We stayed here for 4 nights and every morning we were offered a different breakfast by Bill and the resident chef and baker Wanda all of which were delicious. The central location made walking around downtown very easy, we were even able to navigate the bus system to get to a nearby mall on a rainy day.
Many thanks to Bill and Wanda. We would recommend this B&B to anyone coming to St. John's for the first time or a return trip.

Room Tip: The Narrows Room over looks the harbor and is very quiet.

The Chef's Inn was our first stop on our recent 12 day trip to Newfoundland. Chef Todd was there to greet us upon our arrival as he had given his parents, Bill and Wanda, a few days off :). There were 4 of us travelling and we had 2 rooms booked. Originally, we were told that because they were so booked up during the days that we had booked, that we would have to do a room shuffle. We had no problem with that. As it turns out, they didn't make us move and just put the new guests that arrived into other rooms. We thought that was great of them to do that. Todd was a wonderful host to us the first day. It was really interesting to talk to him about his restaurant that he is going to be opening up in nearby Quidi Vidi Village. He had lots of knowledge of the area, and was keen to help us out with any questions that we had. With Bill and Wanda being gone, we had the luxury of having our breakfast cooked by Todd for us on our first morning. The breakfasts here were lovely, with one hot item and also fresh fruit, fresh baked goods, homemade jams, smoked salmon, cereal, etc... available every day. There were also juices and coffee and tea available. There was also tea available in the dining room all day long, and there were always fresh baked goodies courtesy of Wanda on the table. Bill and Wanda returned the following day and we were so pleased to get to know them as well. Bill's breakfasts were also excellent! It's clear that Todd soaked up the best of both Bill and Wanda :)
Our rooms were lovely, and very well appointed. We had the rooms on the top floor, and each had private ensuite bathrooms. Ours was equipped with a TV with lots of channels, wi-fi, luxurious toiletries and a hair dryer.
We felt so at home at the Chef's Inn. We so enjoyed our time talking with Bill, Wanda, Todd and other guests in their living room. It was just like staying with family. I couldn't recommend them more highly!

Dear Wanda and Bill
Your place was a wonderful place to stay and to spend. Your generosity and hospitality and friendliness is amazing. We enjoyed it so much.

The Chef's Inn is a perfect spot to see and do St. John's. It doesn't matter if you wanna go up to Signal Hill, Water or George Street, Cathedral and The Room - it's all in walking distance, but still you don't have the impression to be in downtown.
Breakfast is great - chosen by Bill and Wanda each morning something different. The baking of Wanda is unbelievable good and she bakes every day. Let alone with the bakery, you'll never be hungry ;-)
The room we stayed in was under the roof, view to the harbour, cozy little place with an en-suite bathroom. Just perfect.
For sure if we go once more to St. John's we will stay at the Chef's Inn

Spent 3 nights at this B&B. Perfect location for touring, you can walk everywhere. Wanda and Bill are the perfect hosts.Breakfasts are ample and the baking left out in the afternoon is a real treat. We stayed in the Cubby room with a view of the harbour.

We stayed 2 nights in a different room each night. Due to the popularity of the place it was not possible to stat in the same room for both nights. The central location meant we could walk to many popular places in St. John's including George Street. Breakfasts were excellent.
