Newfoundland has many dramatic aspects, and this coastal drive is another one. Beside the sea views there is an almost otherworldly (Hobbity?) mix of rugged granite and heath that grows flat and thick and intensely green. We had a stress-free drive from the Codroy Valley - a sunny outing that also included a massive plate of fish and chips (recommended) at the Friendly Fisherman Cafe. The walk out to the lighthouse is not very long and there is a small fee to enter the site. We were very impressed by the quality of the restoration of the granite lighthouse and its informational displays, and the effort this community has put into preserving this handsome building.
My only regret was not leaving more time to explore some of the other communities and walks on Route 470, e.g. the George Harvey Trail.
