“Great fish and chips!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

I pass by this restaurant all the time and decided to call them for a pick up order to check it out. I ordered the haddock and chips dinner, and a side of battered mushrooms - yumm! There's lots on the menu to choose, from jumbo prawns to burgers to chicken wings, and all are reasonably priced. The staff is friendly, the place is a good size, clean and feels homey, with lots of parking in the back.

Next door and connected is the Stagger Inn, a small and quiet neighbourhood bar... I like it and will be back with friends!

“Value, plain and simple”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

This unassuming little restaurant is easy to miss as you speed by on Portage Avenue west, but it is certainly worth stopping in for some great fish and chips. It is easy to miss due to the minimal signage - simply a sidewalk placard and a printed sign in the window. However, it is adjacent to the "Stagger Inn", a local sports bar and watering hole, so I assume the two are somehow associated.

The first thing I noticed on my initial visit was that every patron seemed to be a senior citizen! OK, experience teaches a sense of value, right? Well I don't know if that is true or not, but it certainly was in this case as the mid priced menu combined with generous portions made for excellent dinner time value.

There are daily specials that include soups, salads, chowders, and various battered fish and fries. The Captain's platter includes three types of fish (Cod, Haddock and Shrimp I think).

The decor is simple, with a few ocean-themed decorations to set the tone. Clean, cheerful, and unpretentious best describes the atmosphere. Washrooms were clean and well maintained. There is an experienced serving staff here. Clearly, they know their job and when to tend to the patrons and when to leave them alone.

Though the restaurant closes at 9pm, they are open after that for takeout orders.

This is definitely going to be on my list of go-to restaurants when I am in the busy Polo Park shopping area and want to get away from the crowded, overpriced chain restaurants near there.
